A data mine of Metal Gear Solid Master: Collection Volume 1 strongly suggests that Volume 2 is in the works and that it will bring all the mainline MGS titles to modern platforms.
Data mining has become a standard practice for newly released games, and hidden files can often reveal developers’ future plans. Since Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 was made in Unity, it proved easy for fans to uncover some potentially huge secrets. A Redditor using the handle /u/Timo653 went through the launch scripts for the collection and found some interesting information.
The list of games includes more than just the ones already present in the Master Collection Volume 1. Included in the launcher files were tags hinting at the possible future inclusion of more Metal Gear Solid games, possibly indicating that there will be a Master Collection Volume 2. This suggests that Konami’s uptick in the development of actual video games will continue beyond Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and new Silent Hill projects.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2 possibly leaked with game list
According to a data mine, it is very likely that there will be a Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2 that will include Metal Gear Solid 4, 5, and Peace Walker.
Screenshots of hidden files in the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 launcher show references to titles that are not available in the collection including Metal Gear Solid 4, MGS5, and MGS: Peace Walker. If these games were brought to modern consoles, it would be the first time all mainline Metal Gear Solid games were available on a single platform since the PlayStation 3.
Even if fans were expecting a Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2, the included games should excite fans. Both Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker have not been brought forward since the days of the PlayStation 3, and MGS4 has never been remade or remastered.
At eight years old, Metal Gear Solid 5 would also benefit from being brought to modern consoles. MGS5 was a unique departure from traditional Metal Gear games, aiming for an open-world experience. Although it was critiqued for its incomplete story, the game was heavily praised for its gameplay. It also inhabits a unique space in Metal Gear history, as the probable last game in the series made by Hideo Kojima after his separation from Konami.
If the list of platforms remains the same it will also be the first time all mainline Metal Gear Solid games are available on major consoles and PC. This could change however, with the Nintendo Switch 2’s release looming on the horizon.
