A voice actor from the original release of Persona 4 has seemingly confirmed that a remake is coming and that it’s going to be more than just a graphical facelift.
Persona 3 Reload was an unqualified success for Atlus and Sega. The game received generally strong reviews and garnered strong sales. While it lacked the new content and female main character from the PSP remake Persona 3 Portable, at least officially, it folded in the epilogue chapter from Persona 3 FES and coupled it with modernized gameplay.
Also among the changes were a new soundtrack and an all-new cast of voice actors. Famed voice actor Yuri Lowenthal seemingly confirmed that a Persona 4 remake is coming, and it will get a similar overhaul.
Is there going to be a Persona 4 remake?
There is a great deal of evidence suggesting that a Persona 4 remake is in the works at Atlus. The latest example comes from Lowenthal, the original voiceover artist behind Makoto from Persona 3 and Yosuke in Persona 4.
“And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back,” he said in a post on Bluesky.
The fact that he explicitly discussed a “return” as Yosuke implies the game does indeed exist. Sega has not explicitly confirmed this, but something akin to official confirmation happened in March 2025 when the web domain “p4re.jp” was registered. “p3re.jp” is the official Japanese website of Persona 3 Reload.
Multiple leakers discussed the game throughout 2023 and 2024, including Midori. The leaker accurately released information regarding Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Tactica ahead of Atlus’ official announcements. They later added that the game was far away from release, potentially as far out as 2028.
Persona 4 remake likely to get new voice cast
Original Persona 4 voice actor Yuri Lowenthal effectively confirmed that any remake of the game will include a new voice cast.
Persona 4 has swapped around voiceover artists on a few occasions. Tracey Rooney was the original voice of Chie, but she was replaced by Erin Fitzgerald in Persona 4 Golden, Persona 4: Dancing All Night, and Persona Q. Similarly, Troy Baker voiced Kanji in the original game and some of its follow-ups, but was eventually replaced by Matt Mercer who voiced the character in Persona Q, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and Persona 4: Dancing All Night.
Lowenthal has voiced Yosuke across all those titles and explicitly stated that he wanted to stay on the character. The fact that he isn’t coming back suggests that Atlus is looking to refresh the voice cast for a Persona 4 remake.
Persona 3 Reload received a similar treatment. Every main and secondary character in the game had a new voice actor, with many of them emulating the performances of the originals. It was never explained why the change was made, though none of the original voice actors spoke out against the move.
It is possible that Lowenthal could return in some other role, however. Though Lowenthal didn’t reprise his role as Makoto in Persona 3 Reload, he returned alongside many of his former castmates to voice other characters in the remake. Lowenthal voiced Eiichiro Takeba in Persona 3 Reload and could be in line for a similar role in a Persona 4 remake.
