An alleged Aliens Fireteam 2 leak spills everything about the new project, including the release date, platforms, and major gameplay elements.
The first game in the proposed series, Aliens Fireteam: Elite, was a third-person co-op shooter that focused more on action than horror. Unlike the excellent Alien: Isolation, the game leans towards the more action-oriented second Aliens film. The leaked documents show the new game will build upon the co-op shooting mechanics of the first game and move the story forward.
According to the leaked presentation images, Aliens Fireteam 2 is dubbed Project Macondo. The images are from Cold Iron Studio’s internal communications and show explicit details about the project. The game is still targeting the 18+ demographic of gamers and will likely retain a mature rating.
Aliens Fireteam 2 release date revealed
Aliens Fireteam 2 is slated for a release date in Q3 2025 on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. It’s not yet clear whether the game will be available on the last generation of consoles.
According to the leaked documents, Aliens Fireteam 2 will be story-focused and allow players to “immerse themselves in the game world.” The game aims to blend grounded military action and hard science-fiction ideas. The document also lists five playable characters, each with a unique class: the Swift, Deadly, Silent, Commander, and Ranger classes are included.
There will be abilities in the game as well. Passives, dash, melee, speciality, and ultimate abilities will further differentiate the classes from each other. The abilities are more in line with Overwatch than other games in the co-op shooter genre. Aliens Fireteam 2 will feature at least eight primary weapons, but five will be assigned exclusively to the classes. For example, The Silent class, called Nix, will get the sniper rifle.
Is Aliens Fireteam 2 a live service game?
According to the leaked slides, Aliens Fireteam 2 is not a live service game and it doesn’t have microtransactions or gacha features.
The game won’t release new characters like Genshin Impact or Zenless Zone Zero, and players won’t need to worry about a Battle Pass system as in Apex Legends. One slide clearly states that “no additional microtransactions are currently planned.” This stance could change after the release date of Aliens Fireteam 2 comes and goes. The game is aiming for at least ten missions and eight hours of play, nine core enemies, and 13 weapons in total.
Aliens Fireteam 2 also won’t have any in-game voice or text communication. As a primarily team-based co-op shooter, players may miss these features. The game won’t require user accounts; Cold Iron Studio wants to avoid a Helldivers 2-like controversy. The Aliens Fireteam 2 leaked documents give an outline for the developers to follow. The developer and publisher, Cold Iron Studios, has no official announcement.
