Does Elden Ring have crossplay after the DLC’s release?

The Elden Ring DLC sparked controversy due to its difficulty, but is there crossplay that can let struggling players summon in more friends?

FromSoftware games are known for being quite difficult. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is considered the toughest because of its unforgiving combat and steep learning curve. Bloodborne is a close second with its fast-paced combat and the lack of a shield. But, when Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree was released, those new to Soulsborne were left frustrated due to the high difficulty level often brought on by FromSoftware DLC.

While some have chosen to quit the game, others are seeking to expand their co-op options. While Scadutree Fragments are meant to be the go-to means to expedite progression, summoning other players to help defeat bosses remains part of the game. The latter option, however, has some platform limitations.

Does Elden Ring have crossplay?

Elden Ring does not support crossplay between PC and consoles, or between different console brands. Likewise, the game lacks cross-progression and cross-save features.

Crossplay is not available in any of the Soulsborne games and Elden Ring is no exception, despite being an unparalleled success. Those who want to beat Romina, Saint of the Bud or bring their own promised consort along for the fight with Radahn must be on the same platform.

The closest thing PC players have to crossplay is being able to play with those on other operating systems. While this might not sound like a big deal, Elden Ring still stands as one of the best games on Steam Deck, which is Linux-based.

Console players have it a bit better, but not much.

Elden Ring crossplay is available between Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. Similarly, it’s also available between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players. PlayStation and Xbox players can’t play Elden Ring together. This helps increase the player pool for invasions and tricky bosses, but only slightly.

The addition of crossplay to Elden Ring is extremely unlikely at this point. While players would certainly like to do this, it’s impossible at this time. Fans will likely have to wait until future FromSoftware releases, but even then it’s unlikely.
