A Dead by Daylight movie is coming, but what will it look like and who is attached to it?
Dead by Daylight is an enduring asynchronous PvP multiplayer game where one player takes on the role of a monster and a group of survivors need to complete objectives without being brutally killed. New DLC including crossovers with other games ranging from Dungeons and Dragons to Tomb Raider has kept it going for years. The announcement of a movie adaptation certainly hasn’t hurt matters, either.
While officially a horror game, Dead by Daylight has a unique atmosphere built around its multiplayer gameplay. When the movie was announced, nobody was sure of the details. This makes it unclear how the film will work and which monsters might appear. Here’s what’s known about the film, when it will come out, and who might appear.
Which monsters will appear in the Dead by Daylight movie?
It’s unknown which monsters will appear in Dead by Daylight, but it will likely focus on some of the game’s original creations. While the game is known for its crossover appearances, it has plenty more.
The most likely option is The Blight. Before becoming a monster, The Blight was a brilliant chemist who was killed and brought back to life after accidentally causing the death of hundreds of innocent workers with a productivity-increasing drug. Many failed experiments since have seen him stripped of his humanity and left him damaged and deranged from powerful drugs gone wrong.
The popular and challenging killer is known for being unpredictable and agile thanks to his movement-focused special abilities. Lethal Rush and Slam add an element of chaos, utilizing the walls to make surprising movements that damage and scare players.
The nihilistic, modern-day dystopian take and the general look and style of the monster would translate well to a Blumhouse film. There are plenty of other options though. The Legion would make a solid option for a found-footage or Scream-style horror film. There are multiple potential options for a slasher film set in rural America.

Blumhouse Productions is attached to the film. Blumhouse is known for a slew of horror franchises including Paranormal Activity and The Purge. Recently, Blumhouse took on Five Nights at Freddy’s, taking the spooky horror game and bringing it to life in theaters. Also attached to the film is producer James Wan, one of the creators of Saw.
The Dead by Daylight movie was first announced in 2023 and little news has come out on it since. Until a script and style are confirmed, fans shouldn’t expect any casting information.
