The Guilty Gear series will finally get a proper anime adaptation with Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers.
The Guilty Gear franchise has one of the most in-depth stories in all of fighting games. Sure, Tekken may boast the longest-running narrative but much of that can be summed up as “The Mishimas really don’t like each other.” Guilty Gear’s story has been running for 20 years now and has lore that spans hundreds of years.
But even the most diehard Guilty Gear fans might not know a thing about its story. The technical limitations that existed throughout much of series history and Daisuke Ishiwatari’s commitment to continuing the story with each installment regardless, has made its story difficult to decipher even with a proper story mode in Strive. The upcoming anime adaptation of Guilty Gear Strive will look to remedy that.
What is the Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers story?
Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rullers follows Sin Kiske and Sol Badguy, with Sin seemingly seeking vengeance for a mysterious event related to a tragic event at his parents’ wedding.
The premise of Guilty Gear focuses on the titular Gears, biological weapons created by humanity. After the Gears rebelled, it led to a hundred-year-long war called The Crusades, ending in humanity’s victory, albeit at great cost. Hence, “Guilty Gear” refers to how humanity views every Gear as guilty for humanity’s sorry state.
In the Guilty Gear universe, marriage between a human and a Gear is the ultimate taboo, yet Ky and Dizzy go ahead with the ceremony, believing the world to be at peace. However, a mysterious girl who despises Gears appears out of nowhere and enrages Sin, with details on what happened being vague.
What is abundantly clear is that the girl hates Gears and threatens to shatter the peace that Ky and Dizzy have maintained for so long. Sin and Sol Badguy go on a mission to find this mysterious girl and stop her nefarious plans.
When is the Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers anime release date?
Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers will premiere in 2025.
Arc System Works hasn’t given an exact release date, but some fans speculate it will premiere at the end of Guilty Gear Strive’s Season 4 DLC. With the introduction of a new antagonist, Season 4 might feature characters who will debut or appear in the anime.
Since Ky and Dizzy’s wedding kicks off the show’s plot, Dizzy may finally reappear in Guilty Gear Strive. Either way, fans will have to wait till next year to find out more about the exciting new anime.
