One of the next big projects from Kojima Productions is Physint, but what do we actually know about this new Hideo Kojima game?
Kojima games attract attention like few others in the gaming industry and that’s largely owed to Metal Gear Solid. The iconic stealth game series remains beloved, even 10 years removed from its last mainline installment. Death Stranding didn’t hurt that legacy either, delivering a truly unique experience.
With Death Stranding 2 now in the rear-view mirror, Kojima’s attention is turning to upcoming Xbox title OD and Physint. Details are scarce on both games, but some information is known about the title.
What is Physint?
Physint is an upcoming action-espionage game created by Kojima Productions.
The game was confirmed during the January 2024 State of Play event with an announcement from Kojima and PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst. It will come from a partnership between Kojima Productions and PlayStation Studios. This partnership will seemingly involve other Sony subsidiaries, including Columbia Pictures and Sony Music Entertainment.
No gameplay footage was shown and little was discussed regarding the game, save that it will be an “action-espionage” game. That branding conjures up memories of Metal Gear Solid, which was described as “tactical espionage action.”
When is Physint coming out?
There is no information on Physint’s release date, though fans should not expect it to arrive any time soon.
Speaking with IndieWire in August 2025, Kojima stated that he was still working on the game “all by [himself]” and that the game was still in a “conceptual stage.” This followed previous acknowledgments by Kojima that both Physint and OD were delayed due to strikes in Hollywood in 2024.
In 2025, Kojima Productions celebrated the 10th anniversary of its founding. As part of this, business plans for the company were outlined through 2030 in the “Beyond the Strand” presentation. There was no estimate regarding when Physint may come out during this window, leading to speculation it may not come out until near or potentially after this point.
Kojima Productions can take a very long time to make games, and has released just two since the studio was formed in 2015. With Physint being in an extremely early stage of development and the studio working on OD and other projects outside of video games, fans shouldn’t be expecting to play the game any time soon.
Confirmed Physint actors and actresses
Hideo Kojima confirmed that several prominent actors are attached to Physint. This will likely make it more similar to Death Stranding than the original Metal Gear Solid games in terms of its presentation and style.
These actors and actresses were confirmed to be a part of Physint by Kojima:
- Don Lee
- Charlee Fraser
- Minami Hamabe
Don Lee quickly rose to fame for his role in Train to Busan and became one of Asia’s biggest action movie stars from there. He then broke out in Hollywood through the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Eternals, where he played Gilgamesh.
Minami Hamabe has been a lead actress in various Japanese romance films, but became an international sensation as Noriko Oishi in Godzilla Minus One. Charlee Fraser is primarily known as a model, but became a notable actress through her role as Mary in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
It’s unclear what role they will play in the game, though the game’s lead is likely yet to be revealed. A poster for the game was revealed by Kojima, teasing the probable main character. Though their identity can’t clearly be made out, it is seemingly a man with a different face from Don Lee. Kojima is known for his ability to rope in movie stars and iconic names from other forms of entertainment, so expect plenty more reveals.
Will Physint be a Metal Gear Solid successor?
Physint is positioned to be a successor or spiritual sequel to the Metal Gear Solid series.
PlayStation and Kojima didn’t tiptoe around what this game will be. The game being described as “action-espionage” was likely a deliberate move to position it as a faux continuation of the Metal Gear Solid series. What’s uncertain is what the game will look like and how it will play.
Metal Gear walks an odd tightrope of being grounded in reality and also completely fantastical. This plays out in the story too, with characters ranging from cocky gunslingers to literal ghosts. That absurdity is a big part of the series’ charm for many, but Kojima may or may not look to do something more grounded, or something even wackier.
One thing that can be confidently expected is that the game will look more like Metal Gear Solid 5 than its predecessors. The Phantom Pain saw Kojima truly steer into presenting games as faux movies, including having prominent actors doing face modeling and motion capture. The trailer specifically showing that Columbia Pictures will be part of the development suggests that it will have celebrity appearances.
As for gameplay, Kojima actively looks to push the envelope. Odds are that Physint will ultimately play quite differently from Metal Gear Solid, though it’s impossible to predict what that may look like.
