Death Stranding’s story is far from over, and Hideo Kojima teases a TV series and anime in a recent interview.
With the A24 Death Stranding movie in the works, the IP will certainly not be short on releases for the next few years. Hideo Kojima’s passion for film and TV is no secret to fans. As Kojima brushes shoulders with the likes of Jordan Peele and Guillermo Del Toro, fans have more faith in the cinematic adaptation of Death Stranding.
However, it’s not just the Death Stranding movie coming soon. Kojima has wanted to turn Kojima Productions into a multimedia juggernaut, with exclusive rights to its IPs and adapt them to multiple mediums. A recent interview with Variety reveals just how extensive those multimedia plans are.
Hideo Kojima teases anime and TV series projects for Death Stranding
“There are several “Death Stranding” adaptation projects currently underway,” Kojima confirmed.
He also emphasized the importance of staying independent and partnering with first-party studios instead of letting them take the reins. After Kojima’s controversial exit from Konami and the loss of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, it’s easy to see why. Death Stranding was meant to put Kojima Productions on the map, and despite a rocky launch, it has since become beloved by fans. Now, Kojima wants to expand his IP beyond the world of video games.
“What comes next are different forms of media: movies, anime, TV dramas, etc. Basically, expanding the game IP to other media. That’s the second phase. That’s what we’re aiming for next,” revealed Hideo Kojima about his plans for Kojima Productions.
As for the details, Kojima did not share who will head these upcoming TV and anime projects for Death Stranding. These projects are likely in pre-production, still looking for key figures to headline development. Most of Kojima Productions is likely focusing on Death Stranding 2 and the A24 Death Stranding movie.
In addition to Death Stranding, Kojima Production also has “Physint” and Xbox-exclusive “OD” in the works. Kojima plans to expand both these games to other mediums as well. Some fans may even relish the “justice” of a Kojima original getting a movie before Konami releases the Metal Gear Solid movie.
Overall, big things are happening at Kojima Productions. It’s just a matter of when those big things will come out.
