Bangboos aren’t free so it’s smart to make sure proxies only go after the best ones in Zenless Zone Zero, and this tier list will help discern the best to invest in.
Bangboos are adorable little companions that follow agents into battle, and those cute faces can quickly turn into a real threat to enemies. Each Bangboo in Zenless Zone Zero comes with its own unique stats, active skills, and additional abilities, plus chain attacks. Whether players are after extra damage or useful utilities, there’s a Bangboo that can perfectly fit their team composition.
While it’s tempting to take them all into battle, proxies can only deploy one at a time. If you have zero ideas on which Bangboo to use Boopons on, here’s the ultimate Bangboo Tier List that reveals how they all fare against each other.

Overall Bangboo tier list
The best Bangboos in Zenless Zone Zero are the Butler, Resonaboo, Officer Cui, Red Moccus, Sharkboo, Plugboo, and Safety.
Tier | Bangboo |
S | Butler, Resonaboo, Officer Cui, Red Moccus, Sharkboo, Plugboo, Safety, Rocketboo |
A | Bangvolver, Amillion, Magnetiboo, Avocaboo, Booressure |
B | Penguinboo, Exploreboo, Paperboo, Cryboo, Electroboo, Luckyboo |
C | Bagboo, Sumoboo, Boollseye, Devilboo |
Keep in mind that, in addition to stats and skills, team composition plays a crucial role in how effective Bangboos are. For instance, Plugboo might be a top-tier pick on this list, but it won’t do much good in a mono-fire team. Given the tools of these Bangboos and the characters available at this time, there’s a fairly defined hierarchy.
S-tier: Butler, Officer Cui, and Rocketboo stand atop Bangboo tier list
The S-rank on this tier list is largely defined by Bangboos that are specifically tailored to fit into the strongest team compositions. Ellen and Lycaon, Qingyi and Zhu Yuan, and Caesar and Lucy make up some of the strongest cores in ZZZ. Fittingly, Bangboos that share their factions or elements stand atop the tier list.
S-tier – Butler
Butler can only dish out damage and help apply daze through chain attacks, but that only kicks in during boss fights, and he doesn’t give any damage outside of that. So, what makes him an S-tier pick in the ZZZ Bangboo Tier List? It’s all about Butler’s energy generation for the active agent, which gets even better if there are two or more characters from the Victoria Housekeeping Co. Since all agents in ZZZ can appreciate energy generation, Butler fits right into a lot of team setups, whether or not they have VHC characters. And those pancakes he makes are a sweet bonus!
S-tier – Resonaboo
Resonaboo is an S-rank Bangboo that shines when there are two ether characters in the squad, which boosts anomaly buildup quicker. Even if that team setup isn’t in play, Resonaboo still works as a useful utility Bangboo, much like Butler.
Resonaboo’s active skill summons an ether black hole, similar to Nicole’s EX special attack. This skill is especially handy in timed challenges like Shiyu Defense. By rounding up enemies together, agents can unleash their attacks and combos in one go, without having to chase them one by one, thereby making each run much faster.
S-tier – Officer Cui
Officer Cui is another faction-based bangboo, where deploying two agents from the Criminal Investigation Special Response Team faction presents bonus effects. It has decent stats just like other S-rank Bangboos, with high damage and a daze multiplier. The fact it works well with Qingyi and Zhu Yuan makes it inherently powerful.
S-tier – Sharkboo
Sharkboo is generally an excellent Bangboo for ice teams that want to proc Freeze quicker thanks to its increased anomaly buildup. It also deals additional ice damage and decent daze multiplier. Its active skill, though, has a bit of a downside, as there’s no guarantee that the trap will hit the opponent, especially when they’re agile. It synergizes with Ellen and Lycaon though, so it’s incredibly useful for top meta teams.
S-tier – Red Moccus
Red Moccus’ active skill lets the Bangboo hop on a motorcycle that pushes the farthest enemy toward the active agent. This is really valuable in combat, especially for melee units up against fast-moving or ranged opponents.
However, with a 30-second cooldown, it’s best to use it only when there are more than two agents from the Sons of Calydon on the team, as this activates an additional ability that reduces the cooldown by up to 8 seconds and boosts damage. That’s mitigated further by Sons of Calydon leader Caesar being able to do something similar with her charged basic attack.
S-tier – Plugboo
For players with a knack for electric teams like the Anton-Rina-Grace comp, Plugboo is the way to go. It deals a ton of electric damage and excels at stunning enemies while building up the Shock debuff.
S-tier – Rocketboo
Rocketboo is the go-to for mono-fire teams, particularly those built around Soldier 11. As with Plugboo, it lacks efficacy with anything else. It’s a particularly fun Bangboo to play with though, as it will hop on a rocket and send small enemies flying across the stage when it explodes.
S-tier – Safety
Teams with Belobog Heavy Industries like Ben and Koleda like will certainly want to have the Safety Bangboo. Like other S-rank Bangboos, it boosts damage output, but players need to trigger either Burning or Shock to unlock that damage increase. Players who run an all-Belobog team will be in a solid position with it for now. But as time goes on and there are more team composition options, expect this Bangboo to slide down the tier list in favor of more specialized options.
A-tier: Bangboos include Cunning Hares’ Amillion, A-rank alternatives for Victoria Housekeeping
Some S-rank stragglers and alternatives to the Bangboos atop the tier list make up the A rank. These are generally serviceable but are largely defined by the fact that there are other, rarer Bangboos that are just plain better.
A-tier – Bangvolver
Bangvolver shares similarities with other S-rank elemental-centric Bangboos in terms of stats, damage, and daze, but it caters specifically to Physical teams. However, the reason Bangvolver isn’t on the same tier as Plugboo and Rocketboo is its RNG mechanic in the active skill. It can deal the same damage and daze multiplier, double them, or provide nothing at all.
A-tier – Amillion
Amillion is a Bangboo that underperforms compared to others in its rank and shines only in certain situations. With two Cunning Hares units in the squad, it can boost the damage of its active skill based on the number of nearby enemies—the fewer enemies, the bigger the damage increase.
This means Amillion is more effective against bosses rather than in fights with multiple groups of enemies. However, unlike other S-rank Bangboos, Amillion’s active skill has zero daze multiplier and doesn’t enhance physical anomaly buildup. For players who commit to an all-Cunning Hares team, though, Amillion is a must-use.
A-tier – Magnetiboo
Magnetiboo is an A-rank Bangboo, and a weaker version of Resonaboo. Instead of ether, it deals physical damage when pulling enemies in. There are instances where it can lead to some massive combinations, but these are unwieldy and inconsistent.
A-tier – Avocaboo
As it stands, no agents in Zenless Zone Zero have healing abilities, and options are limited. However, if players are looking for a source of healing, they can sacrifice some damage by adding sustain. For that purpose, Avocaboo is a great pick. This is very helpful in the Withering Garden’s blitz format during long-running battles, but is only helpful in the most grueling fights.
A-tier – Booressure
Booresure is essentially the A-rank version of Butler. While Butler’s skill has a lower cooldown and scales better, Booresure can be a better option if players want energy generation for the whole team instead of just one agent.
B-tier: Penguinboo and company are the plan C of Bangboos
B-tier – Penguinboo
Penguinboo is an A-rank Bangboo and a weaker version of Sharkboo, though it boasts a higher daze multiplier than its counterpart. It’s still the worst of the go-to options for an Ellen-Lycaon team, but still fits in well.
B-tier – Exploreboo
Exploreboo is a nice Bangboo to have for sustain. It offers healing, shields, and energy generation, a combo not offered by any other Bangboo. But as with Avocaboo, this is only really helpful in the most grueling fights. And if a fight is proving to be grueling, it’s generally better to opt for more offense.
B-tier – Paperboo
Paperboo is a budget-friendly option for players looking for utility Bangboos. Its active skill taunts enemies, redirecting their attacks toward Paperboo instead of the agents. Additionally, it generates a shield when there’s at least one defense character in the squad. This is quite helpful for new players, but it also fills a niche that’s instead meant to be filled by effective dodge rolling and skill timing.
B-tier – Cryboo
Cryboo is a cheaper alternative to Rocketboo for fire teams. That’s about all there is to say. While many of Bangboo at the top of the tier list have less-optimal alternatives, Cryboo distinguishes itself by being a straight downgrade rather than an alternative.
B-tier – Electroboo
Take the entry above. Substitute “Electroboo” for “Cryboo.” Then substitute “electric” for “fire.” It’s the same story here. Electroboo is Plugboo, but worse. There isn’t much else to say.
B-tier – Luckyboo
Luckyboo is a good Bangboo to assign to physical damage teams. Besides dealing damage, it also builds up physical anomaly, which helps trigger assaults. This can be a solid option to put alongside teams that have Jane Doe as their primary DPS.
C-tier: You shouldn’t be using any of these
C-tier – Bagboo
Right now, Bagboo feels like one of the least helpful damage-type bangboo. The damage it deals is mediocre due to its low base attack and damage multiplier. There isn’t really a situation where this Bangboo should be chosen.
C-tier – Sumoboo
Sumoboo is slightly weaker than Bagboo in terms of damage, but applies more daze. Still, there are better options for any given team composition among the A-rank Bangboos in Zenless Zone Zero.
C-tier – Boollseye
Similar to other C-tier Bangboos, Boollseye’s scaling is bad enough that it’s not even worth upgrading. There isn’t really a situation where Boolseye is worth using.
C-tier – Devilboo
If a player doesn’t have Resonaboo yet, Devilboo is theoretically a decent fit for an ether team. That said, there’s no versatility to this Bangboo. While Nicole and Zhu Yuan are the core of many different solid teams, players are better off looking elsewhere.
