After EA canceled the Sims 5, fans wondered about the future of Sims but EA answered with the Sims Hub; what exactly is it?
The Sims has become a stagnant franchise in recent years. Sims 4 celebrated its 10th anniversary in September 2024, but nothing significant dropped for the milestone event. Instead, EA officially announced the cancellation of Sims 5 that same month.
The company believed that supporting Sims 4 for the foreseeable future would be better for the fans, even as many on social media disagreed. However, that doesn’t mean no Sims titles are in the works. Project Rene, which many believed was the codename for the Sims 5, is still coming soon. Notably, Project Rene will reportedly be part of something called “The Sims Hub.”
What is the Sims Hub?
The Sims Hub is a platform for Sims creators that links all the Sims games together
“These experiences will be united and connected with common creator tools, a shared gallery, a single marketplace, the ability to port objects and modes from one experience to another, and a unified social network that will seamlessly connect players and fans across each and every Sims product,” stated EA to investors in September 2024.
Currently, the Sims Hub contains The Sims 4, MySims, The Sims Project Stories, and Project Rene. Given the wording of the statement, more Sims games will likely be included in the Sims Hub with each entry. Some fans speculate older games such as the original Sims trilogy will also make their way to the hub.
The concept is similar to Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed Infinity, or other themed launchers like the Halo: The Master Chief Collection. However, the addition of social media aspects and a marketplace imply EA has bigger plans than a glorified launcher.
EA plans to expand the Sims with spin-offs and AI image-generation tools
With Project Rene confirmed to be a spin-off from the mainline series, EA also put forward AI tools as the future of The Sims gameplay.
“Now picture uploading an image of a model, wearing a certain outfit: clothes, shoes, jewelry all of it. Using images to create content will dial up the power of our players,” said EA to investors about planned innovations for The Sims franchise.
The tool will likely be integrated into the platform with its proximity to the Sims Hub. With no releases anytime soon, The Sims fans have no choice but to trust EA’s plans for the franchise’s future.
