Larian Studios recently released some fascinating statistics for Baldur’s Gate 3 as the end of the year approaches including the game’s huge sales and Honor Mode’s extremely limited success stories.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the biggest success stories in gaming for 2023. While Larian Studios found success with its Divinity: Original Sin franchise, with DOS2 in particular moving over 7.5 million units as of 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a beast all on its own. That includes both the sales and the level of critical acclaim seen between the two games.
On PC alone, Baldur’s Gate 3 has sold over 5 million units. While half of those were from early access, BG3 still doubled its initial sales record of 2.5 million in barely half a year. Larian shared those numbers on social media, but the studio wasn’t done bragging about the game’s success thus far.
How many players have beaten Baldur’s Gate 3?
Over 1.3 million players have beaten Baldur’s Gate 3.
Among all the fun statistics, Larian proudly discussed players’ successes first. Though Baldur’s Gate 3 is a very long game, a significant percentage of players have beaten it. The percentage is likely to go up, as the title retains a sizable number of players and stands as one of the top 10 most-played games on Steam months after its release, unlike certain other major RPG releases.
From there, the company went into player habits. If someone were to build a character based on the most popular choices, that character would be an elf paladin with an oath of vengeance who romances Shadowheart.
Other amusing statistics included the fact that 1.24 million players were transformed into sentient wheels of cheese, Scratch was petted 48.5 million times, 84 million fireballs were thrown, 113 million corpses were spoken to, and 8,196 years were spent in total on the character creation screen. The sheer numbers displayed are a showcase of just how much players are actually doing in Baldur’s Gate 3. The company also acknowledged the difficulties, however.
How many players have beaten Baldur’s Gate 3 Honor Mode?
Only 464 parties have successfully finished Honor Mode as of this writing.
That means less than 0.01% of all players have completed Honor Mode. Of the 158,000 players that started a run of Honor Mode, there have been over 34,000 who failed their run. It might take a while for those numbers to start reaching into the thousands.
The release of Honor Mode shows that Larian Studios is motivated to give players a reason to keep coming back. Larian continues to add to the game even months after its release, including the addition of a new epilogue chapter.
