The original Final Fantasy Tactics had a boatload of missable content, items, and abilities and that’s still the case in The Ivalice Chronicles.
Whether it’s a turn-based RPG like Persona 5 or an action RPG like Elden Ring, missable content is to be expected. Unlike other games, Final Fantasy Tactics is extremely coy regarding its missable content. It’s extremely easy to miss out on a one-of-a-kind item and never even realize that it happened, or find out that late-game characters became inaccessible back in chapter two.
That makes it important to know what missing content there is heading into the game’s later stages. Here’s a full breakdown of all the missable weapons, items, and characters in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.

Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles missable characters
There are several missable unique characters in Final Fantasy Tactics, all of which are centered around Mustadio. Mustadio is required to begin the biggest sidequest in the game, which nets players four new special characters. However, Mustadio can be permanently killed at any point after he joins the party. While everyone always wants to keep special characters alive, they’ll especially want to do so with Mustadio.
Beowulf
Players need to keep Mustadio alive until chapter four and make a specific dialog choice to recruit Beowulf. The first part of Mustadio’s sidequest gives players the opportunity to recruit a knight named Beowulf. While Beowulf is inherently missable due to Mustadio needing to be alive, he’s doubly missable because players can simply turn him down. Beowulf appears in the tavern in Lesalia and asks if Ramza is in the market to hire a mercenary. If players refuse to do business with him, he simply doesn’t join.
Reis
Reis can be missed if Mustadio dies before chapter four, or if players decline Beowulf joining the party. Reis first appears as the Holy Dragon, with access to all three elemental breath attacks, though it changes form through a sidequest with Beowulf. However, if players don’t recruit Beowulf, this never actually happens.

Construct 8
Players need to get Beowulf and Reis to join the party to recruit Construct 8. Mustadio isn’t the only character that can rob players of the opportunity to get unique party members. If players never recruit Beowulf, they never have the means to recruit the robot formerly known as Worker 8.
Cloud
Cloud is missable in a few different ways in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. Players need to complete everything through recruiting Construct 8 in order to recruit Cloud. Alongside this, once players have access to the Trade City of Sal Ghidos, they’ll encounter a flower seller. Make sure to purchase a flower. After this, return to Goug for another meeting with Besrudio. Cloud will be summoned into Ivalice and run off. Players can find him back in Sal Ghidos, and he joins after winning a battle.

How to get rare items with Treasure Hunter in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles
The Treasure Hunter ability lets players pick up items in select locations on most maps. Most maps in Final Fantasy Tactics have four tiles on them that have contain items that can only be picked up with the Treasure Hunter ability. Treasure Hunter is a movement ability that can be learned by Chemists, which are secretly among the best jobs in Final Fantasy Tactics.
Nearly all of these tiles have two items that can be picked up, with one being considerably rarer than the other. Some of the best items in the game are found in this way, but if players get the common item from these tiles, the rare item is gone forever. Here’s how to build out a character to increase your chances of getting these missable items in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles:
- Chemist job
- Treasure Hunter movement ability
- Low bravery stat
The Ivalice Chronicles adjusted Final Fantasy Tactics such that Chemists passively have the Treasure Hunter movement ability, allowing them to pick up items before learning the skill. However, having the Treasure Hunter ability equipped on a Chemist improves the odds of picking up those rare items.
Alongside this, having a low bravery stat also increases the odds of getting these items. It’s worth noting that characters may leave the party if their bravery is too low, so the ideal range is around 15.
Even with a perfectly optimized character, however, the odds of getting these rare items is not 100%. Final Fantasy Tactics players will want to make sure they save regularly before trying to get them, even in The Ivalice Chronicles.
Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles missable weapons, items, and spells
There are several powerful or otherwise important items in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles that are either one-of-a-kind or missable. Many of these are completely missable but just as importantly, they’re irreplaceable if they’re broken or stolen. As such, players need to take extra care when they get these items and when they start using them.
Ultima
Ultima is a spell that can only be learned by Ramza. In order to get it, Ramza will have to survive being hit by the spell while he is on the Squire or Gallant Knight class. Ultima Demons and Celia and Lede are the only units in the game that cast Ultima.
Celia and Lede are the best options for this, but players should give Ramza an accessory that makes him immune to the stop status effect. This increases the chances of them using the spell on Ramza.
Masamune katana and the Genji armor set
The Masamune katana and Genji gear can only be obtained from the final battle with Marquis Elmdore, Celia, and Lede. In order to get the items, players will have to steal each of them from Elmdore during the fight. This can be a tedious process if players are unprepared, but having a Knight with the various stat rends and a high-bravery Thief that can steal all his gear can get the job done.
Invisibility Cloak
The Invisibility Cloak can be obtained from one of the top tiles on the Mount Germinas map. This is picked up using the Treasure Hunter ability, but players may also wind up picking up some other item from this spot.

Escutcheon II, Javelin II, and Sasuke’s Blade
Nelveska Temple has three missable items that players can collect, and one other valuable sword. The missable items are Escutcheon II, Javelin, and Sasuke’s Blade, though a Nagnarock sword can also be found.
While Escutcheon and Javelin are starter weapons, there are upgraded versions that are the best shield and spear in the game. These items can be distinguished by their unique colors and radically superior stats. They are found on the pillars near the area where players place their team. Meanwhile, Sasuke’s Blade is found on the tile behind Nelveska Temple’s near the corner of the map with a height of four. Players can also find a Nagnarock sword if they go deep into the temple, though this isn’t a missable weapon as it can be
All Midlight’s Deep missable items in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles
Midlight’s Deep has several missable items strewn across several of its floors. These items range from being very good to being the definitive best in their categories.
- Delta: Zeus Mace
- Valkyries: Kaiser Shield, Rod of Faith
- Yrotciv: Iga Blade
- Tiger: Ninja Gear, Cursed Ring
- Bridge: Staff of the Magi
- Voyage: Perseus Bow, Lordly Robe
- Horror: Maximillian, Venetian Shield, Grand Helm
Once again, these items are exclusively found by using the Treasure Hunter ability. Players ought to save before entering each floor to guarantee that they don’t wind up picking up the wrong item.

Zodiark summon
This missable summon is the bane of developing Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles trophy hunters.
On the bottom floor of Midlight’s Deep is the game’s optional superboss, Serpentarius, the Keeper of Darkness. Serpentarius is the only enemy in the game that can use the summon Zodiark. Similar to Ultima, this ability is learned by Summoners who can survive being hit by the spell.
Materia Blade+
The Materia Blade+ is found at the highest point in the Mount Bervenia map with the Treasure Hunter ability. The sword isn’t technically missable, but it’s a one-of-a-kind item that is integral to Cloud’s kit. The sword gives him access to the Soldier job’s Limit abilities. Without them, he’s just a standard character.
Players can find the weapon at any point once they have access to Mount Bervenia. However, the Materia Blade+ cannot be replaced if it is broken, stolen, or thrown. Make sure to keep it safe.
