Ubisoft is taking players on a new trip across the galaxy with Star Wars Outlaws and the game’s release date is surprisingly soon.
With the Star Wars Jedi series currently in limbo, fans of the iconic franchise can turn their attention to what will be the first fully open-world Star Wars game. Ubisoft first teased that it was working on a game licensed by Lucasfilms in 2021, then revealed cinematic and gameplay trailers during the Xbox Showcase in June 2023 to give fans a glimpse of what to expect from the experience.
The game will feature several different planets with cities that players can traverse on foot or on speeders, with ship travel and combat bridging the gap between them. Here’s when fans can get their hands on the game.
Star Wars Outlaws release date details possibly leaked
Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled for release in 2024, with Disney stating that the game is coming in late 2024.
Disney leaked the news through the Disney Parks website, giving that narrowed release window. After, Disney and Ubisoft issued a statement that said the game’s release window simply remains “2024,” as was announced during the Xbox Showcase reveal.
The change had fans worried about the date fix, with some wondering if it had fallen behind schedule and could be delayed to 2025. Developers stated that they had worked on the game for four years as of summer 2023. It has been in the works for a long while and had an extensive gameplay showcase in June 2023. While it’s possible the “late 2024” release date is true, there’s still no word yet on an exact release date for Star Wars Outlaws.
Star Wars Outlaws platforms
Star Wars Outlaws is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
According to developer Massive Entertainment, the game will use the latest version of Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine. Snowdrop was used to create Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and the upcoming The Division Heartland. Massive Entertainment created Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and worked on Star Wars Outlaws at the same time.
The game will also feature an original storyline with the heroine Kay Vess seeking freedom and a new life with her companion Nix. It will contain stealth and open combat as well as branching dialog that is said to be meaningful and decisive. Fans can expect more details on Star Wars Outlaws and its story as 2024 rolls on, and as its release date closes.
