Path of Exile 2’s early access beta will launch soon, and eager fans don’t have to do much in order to join in on the action.
After the runaway success of Baldur’s Gate 3, interest in dark fantasy CRPGs has skyrocketed. A decade before Baldur’s Gate 3 sold millions, another dark fantasy RPG ruled the roost among hardcore fans. Path of Exile launched in October 2013 after a massively successful crowd-funding campaign and became one of the defining games of the genre.
Since then, the game consistently received patches, new expansions, and cosmetics. In 2019, Grinding Gear Games announced a major expansion for Path of Exile. However, that same expansion transformed into a standalone sequel in 2023. The sequel, set years after the first game, will have six acts, span across 100 endgame maps, and feature thousands of new skills. After many delays, fans will finally enjoy the long-awaited sequel to Path of Exile, albeit with some requirements.
How to join Path of Exile 2 early access beta
Players who buy the upcoming supporter packs or meet a certain threshold of lifetime support in Path of Exile 1 can participate in the beta.
According to Path of Exile’s official social accounts, a livestream for Path of Exile 2 will occur in November 2024. Notably, this is around the same time Path of Exile 2 will launch on Steam in early access. However, not everyone will gain access to Path of Exile 2 on its initial launch. Instead, fans must purchase new supporter packs, which the developers will reveal during the upcoming livestream.
The developers did something similar with the Fall of Oriath expansion for the first game. In addition to supporter packs, longtime players of the first game may get invited to the beta without buying a key. To qualify, they must have met a certain threshold of lifetime support for Path of Exile 1.
More details will follow in the livestream, but the heads-up means hardcore fans know what to do in November 2024. The beta will most certainly not feature the entirety of the game. Still, much like Baldur’s Gate 3, some fans will appreciate getting to shape the sequel for its official release.
