Valorant now lets players manually reduce in-game toxicity with the newly introduced block feature, but how do you block, and unblock, someone in Valorant?
Riot Games is always working on features to improve the game’s notoriously toxic playerbase, including ranked rollback and hardware bans. However, players have long requested a block feature to avoid queuing with specific players. Although Riot has no plans to implement this exact feature, they have introduced a similar solution that does the job.
Regardless of the game, bad actors will use the tools available to them to harass others. A new option for dealing with that is now available.
How does the block feature work in Valorant?
Players can block toxic party invite spamming as of Valorant patch 9.06, with an unblock option coming in the same patch. The update introduces a block feature, allowing players to create a blacklist of unwanted opponents and teammates, filtering out invites and messages.
This list automatically mutes all communication from blacklisted players if matched with them in random matchmaking. Players can block toxic enemies mid-game by simply clicking on the “block” icon next to their name on the scoreboard. But unblocking them isn’t as simple.
However, there is no option for blocking players that will affect matchmaking. Players cannot prevent themselves from being placed in the same game as a troll. All they can do is report and hope Riot Games takes action.
How to unblock players in Valorant
Players can view their block list and unblock players through the “General” section of the settings menu.
Those who accidentally block someone during a game can simply click on “unblock” next to a player’s name on the scoreboard. Things become more difficult over time, however. Those looking to clear out their block list can do so through the in-game settings. Here’s how to find it:
- Start Valorant and navigate to Settings
- Click on the General tab
- Scroll down to the Privacy section
- Select Blocked Players
- Click “See Blocked Players List”
- To unblock a player, click “Unblock” next to their name
There can be several reasons to unblock players in Valorant. For instance, this feature is highly restrictive, preventing communication with blocked players. Those in the block list will not be able to send party invites, messages, friend requests, and more. Those who decide to give someone a second chance can simply go back and unblock those who promise to be less annoying moving forward.
