Mob Entertainment just dropped a teaser trailer for Poppy Playtime Chapter 4, and fans finally have a release date and some new info on the game’s mascot.
When Scott Cawthon released Five Nights at Freddy’s in 2014, the indie horror gaming landscape changed forever. Just like how Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Slender influenced the scene, Five Nights at Freddy’s began a new wave of mascot horror that remains popular today. Titles like Bendy and the Ink Machine, Baldi’s Basics, and Poppy Playtime scared kids everywhere with their brand of brightly-colored terror.
Even Five Nights at Freddy’s began to lag behind Poppy Playtime after an explosion of popularity in 2021. After four chapters, the hype has only grown for the new horror franchise.
When is the release date of Poppy Playtime Chapter 4?
Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 will be released in January 2025.
Mob Entertainment provided a link for fans to wishlist the game on Steam in the official trailer’s description. Notably, the PC release for Poppy Playtime chapters always came before the console release, a trend even fans noticed after Chapter 3.
Given Mob Entertainment’s past development schedule, Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 will likely launch on consoles months after the PC release in 2025. How long that process will take is unclear. Chapter 3 had the quickest turnaround of the series thus far, launching on consoles nine months after the PC release. The first two chapters took 18 months to two years to make the jump from PC to consoles. The series’ popularity may accelerate the development process.
Although the teaser trailer did not reveal new gameplay, it did give fans a glimpse of the dreadful new mascot to escape.
Who is the mascot for Poppy Playtime Chapter 4?
Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 features Baba Chops, a female sheep wearing a sinister smile.
Based on her appearance, Baba Chops looks like one of the Smiling Critters, the adorably unsettling parody of 1980s toylines. In the trailer, she viciously rips apart DogDay and eats them, showcasing her violent side. It also showcases piles of limp plushies, a teaser of the newest map.
The Steam page for Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 states it’s the “darkest chapter yet.” Chapter 4 will let players finally unravel some of the mystery behind Poppy’s Playtime directly. Whether the player can survive the horrors long enough to manage it is another thing entirely.
With the Halloween season beginning, there’s no better time to hop into Poppy Playtime and catch up with the horrors of childhood nostalgia.
