Fresh hints say A Plague Tale 3 is on the way, here’s what we know

plague tale 3

The developer behind the A Plague Tale series, Asobo Studio, has announced a new collaboration with publisher Focus Entertainment that is sparking anticipation for a possible A Plague Tale 3 project.

A third entry in the A Plague Tale series was already within expectations. For starters, the original A Plague Tale game and its sequel, A Plague Tale Requiem, have been well received by fans and critics alike. According to Focus Entertainment’s latest financial update, both titles have sold over three million copies worldwide. Recent job postings on Asobo‘s website have also revealed that the studio was looking to strengthen the team behind Requiem for subsequent projects.

While there is no official confirmation that the new project is A Plague Tale 3, Asobo Studio is known to be working with Focus Entertainment exclusively on A Plague Tale games. Other Asobo projects have involved working with Microsoft, Ubisoft, and Disney/Pixar on various projects and movie-inspired games, but none of these collaborations touched on the A Plague Tale IP.

What is the release date for A Plague Tale 3?

There is no set release date for Plague Tale 3, and the game may still be in earlier stages of development.

A recent business update document says that Asobo and Focus Entertainment “extend the productive collaboration that led to the A Plague Tale franchise.” This could refer to a third game in the series, or a possible spin-off project set in the same world.

The first game was released in 2019 and the second in 2022, so it’s expected that the third game would follow the same development cycle and be released in 2025.

The conclusion of A Plague Tale Requiem hints at the potential direction of a sequel or a spin-off, with protagonist Amicia expressing her intent to seek out others afflicted by the Macula curse. The Macula curse was the primary cause of the plague and rat infestation during the historical backdrop of the Hundred Years’ War between England and France, according to the in-game lore.

The secret ending also gave a glimpse of an unknown baby with the curse’s mark engraved on their arm. This hinted at the introduction of a new curse bearer in the possible upcoming third entry, and a likely change in the cast away from the original duo of Amicia and Hugo.

When is the Plague Tale TV show coming out?

A Plague Tale TV series is in the works with French director Mathiew Turi at the helm, but it hasn’t yet been announced when it will be coming out.

Adapting the draw of video games to other mediums is nothing new, with the success of such shows as The Witcher and Cyberpunk Edgerunners proving it out, and a Bloodborne movie reportedly under consideration. The strong financial performance and cinematic nature of A Plague Tale make it a similarly attractive candidate for TV adaptations.

Turi is mainly known for his work on Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. He shared the information regarding the adaptation on his Twitter account himself in 2022. Though details about the show remain scarce, insider information points to a predominantly French-British cast, an English-language production, auditions have been held in 2022, and possible release date of 2025.

It should be noted that there are currently no plans for an adaptation of A Plague Tale: Requiem, with any potential development contingent on press feedback and public reception, according to the same insider.
