The Witcher 3 modding is about to see a boom with the release of an official mod editor and Steam Workshop integration.
After nearly a decade, the mod editor is ready for gamers and creators. CD Projekt will release The Witcher 3’s official mod editor, RedKit, on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games in May. This will bring a slew of new mods to the game and breathe new life into the game.
The critically and commercially acclaimed RPG already has a thriving modding scene with over 6,000 mods available on Nexus Mods, all created without official tools. The introduction of official modding tools should let modders and creatives take the game to a new level while letting players who mod their game enjoy an easier experience with the Steam Workshop.
What tools are in the official Witcher 3 mod editor?
The Witcher 3’s official mod editor, RedKit, has tools that the developers used to make the game, giving modders greater freedom and power.
The RedKit is a comprehensive modding tool that will potentially give users new ways to customize and expand upon the CD Projekt Red’s RPG in any way they like.
The game already has plenty of texture, costume, UI, re-shades, and gameplay mods available. Mods like auto-looting enemies, better experience scaling, and better textures are popular among fans. With official mod tools, modders can go further and expand the game with new areas, characters, and complete questlines.
The Witcher 3 mod editor will let players make new items, weapons, animations, and new territories to explore. Unlike Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, the mods will only work with the game’s PC version. There are currently no plans to introduce mods on consoles.
The Witcher 3 gets Steam Workshop support
The Witcher 3 will also be getting Steam Workshop support at some point in 2024. No exact release date was given.
The Steam Workshop is another place to host and easily install mods for games. With official mod integration through Steam, players can both add and update mods with little difficulty. All this means that fans of the RPG will have an easier time waiting for The Witcher 4 now.
Popular games such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim have over 27,000 mods available on the Steam Workshop. The mods automatically download and install, making finding, installing, and testing them a breeze.
