Here’s how to beat Masque Phantom in Infinity Nikki, and fix its bug

masque phantom infinity nikki

Masque Phantom is the first boss in Infinity Nikki that actually puts up a fight, though with the difficulty having little to do with skill, it’s important to learn exactly how to beat the Masque Phantom esseling.

Infinity Nikki is a relatively easy game to best. It doesn’t require a lot of combat skills to progress into the storyline, but a few bosses do require patience and the right information. Masque Phantom stands apart from other esselings in one key way, which is that it won’t engage in combat until players actively interact with it first. This often what trips people up when they first encounter it.

The boss can be fought on Danqing Island during the exclusive quest Red Ribbons Tied, Hearts Aligned. Outside of that quest, it’s exclusively found in the Danqing Realm. The boss was introduced alongside Danqing Island in the game’s Version 1.8 update, as part of that update’s new area-specific content.

While Masque Phantom isn’t all that difficult to beat, the boss is actually bugged for some players who get stuck on it, making it all the more important to check in on how it’s meant to be beaten.

Guide to beating Masque Phantom is Infinity Nikki

Masque Phantom can be dealt with using both purification and archery, but it’s much easier to beat him through the use of purification.

Once combat begins, Masque Phantom breaks into a dance and reveals his mask. He then releases a set of drums into the air, each of which is colored either black or white. Instead of attacking the boss directly, players need to hit the drums that match the color of his mask. Landing the correct hits, followed by one direct attack on Masque Phantom, will strip away one of his three lives. Players simply need to repeat this tactic until two of the boss’ lives are gone.

When Masque Phantom is down to his last life, the drums appear only briefly before vanishing behind question marks. He then shuffles them, and players must recall each drum’s original color and shoot accordingly. He repeats this trick three times, and goes down on the third successful attempt.

How to fix the Masque Phantom boss fight bug in Infinity Nikki

While some players fail to complete the mission despite hitting the drums in the right order, there is actually a potential bug that can force players to repeat the first step of beating Masque Phantom over and over again despite hitting the correct drums.

Players are supposed to shoot at the black drums in the first stage. A bugged Masque Phantom will appear in a white mask after showing the black mask only for a split second. But that’s not long enough to shoot at the black drums.

The most reliable Masque Phatnom boss fight bug fix is typically to simply walk away from the challenge for a few minutes to allow the encounter to fully reset.

Merely restarting the game likely will not fix the issue. Players are recommended to walk nearby and collect a few Whimstars, and then return to do battle with Masque Phantom. Keep doing this until the boss keeps his black mask on for longer. That’s when players can repeat the method we’ve described above to beat the Masque Phantom boss in Infinity Nikki.
