How to cheese Night Idol, unlock Revenant in Elden Ring: Nightreign

elden ring nightreign revenant

The Night Idol is a tough boss fight in Elden Ring: Nightreign but thankfully, players can beat them and unlock Revenant easily with some cheese tactics.

Players will probably encounter the Night Idol by accident. After purchasing an item from the jar merchant in Roundtable Hold, a strange NPC can be found staring at a wall. Talking with them will result in a surprise teleportation, where the Night Idol boss awaits.

On first glance, the Night Idol is a tough boss due to her three allies and her strong burst damage. Some gamesmanship with the enemies’ AI gives players a couple of great ways to deal with her, however. As a reward for their efforts, players unlock Revenant as a playable character. Here’s how to get through this questline.

How to unlock Revenant in Elden Ring: Nightreign

Revenant is unlocked by completing a short questline and defeating the Night Idol boss. Here’s the step-by-step breakdown:

  • Successfully defeat the final boss in a Tricephalos raid
  • Purchase the Besmirched Frame from the Small Jar Bazaar
  • Talk to the NPC staring at the painting of Radagon
  • Beat or cheese the Night Idol boss

In order to start unlocking new characters, players first need to win a raid. The default first raid in Elden Ring: Nightreign is the Tricephalos raid which features the Gladius, Beast of Night boss battle. After defeating Gladius, players have a number of new features and quests unlocked for them.

One of those is an expanded inventory for the Small Jar Bazaar. Purchase the Besmirched Frame to have a new NPC appear in Roundtable Hold. After spawning into Roundtable Hold, go down the corridor to the right toward the journal. She can be found in a corner next to the bookshelf, seemingly staring at the wall.

After talking to her, players are transported to a boss fight against the Night Idol. Winning this battle will automatically unlock Revenant as a playable character in Elden Ring: Nightreign. While players don’t have to worry about fumbling their runes on a long run, beating her is easier said than done. She’s no pre-patch Promised Consort Radahn, but she can be tough.

How to beat or cheese Night Idol in Elden Ring: Nightreign

Players can beat the Night Idol in Elden Ring: Nightreign by isolating her summoned allies and then beating her, or cheese the fight by using Raider or Ironeye to safely whittle her down.

The best strategy to score a “legitimate” win over the Night Idol is by slowly taking out her summoned allies. Compared to some other encounters, Revenant’s summons are quite passive. Though they will constantly be looking to attack the player, they won’t rush them down like some other enemies. This allows players to effectively bounce between one-on-one battle before focusing on the Night Idol.

Alternatively, Elden Ring: Nightreign players can beat the Night Idol and unlock Revenant with a cheese strategy.

Because the Night Idol’s summoned allies are somewhat passive, players can focus on landing big hits on her. Night Idol’s health pool isn’t huge, so landing several drive-by jumping heavy attacks is the way to go. Raider is comfortably the best character to do this with, but Wylder is a workable alternative.

Ironeye can employ a similar strategy to cheese his way to beating the Night Idol. Use his active character skill to land a hit on her, run away to safety, and repeat for as long as necessary. The Night Idol can effortlessly dodge arrows, but will consistently take hits from his dagger.

Because of the passiveness of her allies, players can whittle her down without too much trouble to get an easy, cheesy win.
