How to get Wyrdeer in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet after DLC

pokemon scarlet and violet trainer with wyrdeer

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s first DLC, The Hidden Treasure Part 1: The Teal Mask, brought fans a host of new Pokemon to collect but Stantler evolution Wyrdeer wasn’t among them. That doesn’t mean players can’t get it, though.

The Kitakami region brought fans Pokemon previously unobtainable in generation nine, including white-striped Basculin and its evolution Basculegion and the formidable Ursaluna. Other Pokemon Legends: Arceus exclusives remain impossible to evolve in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, including Stantler’s evolution Wyrdeer.

That said, the grumpy reindeer can still be obtained in the game. It’s not going to be easy, or free in some cases, but players who are desperately seeking this intimidating Trick Room setter can bring it into the Paldea region and even take it to the ranked ladder. Here’s how.

How to get Wyrdeer in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

To get Wyrdeer in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players need to transfer one in via Pokemon HOME.

As of the release of The Teal Mask DLC, there is no way to evolve Stantler into Wyrdeer in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Stantler can only be evolved in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Players can transfer a Stantler caught in Scarlet and Violet into Legends: Arceus via Pokemon Home.

Stantler can be found in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in South Province Areas One, Three, and Five. It can also be found in three-star raids in Paldea or east of Mossui Town as well as in Timeless Woods in the DLC region Kitakami. In Pokemon Legends: Arceus Stantler is easiest to find at Deertrack Heights in the Obsidian Fieldlands.

Similar to other evolution methods introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Stantler requires a specific move to be used before becoming Wyrdeer. Stantler needs to know the move Psyshield Bash which is learned exclusively in the gen-eight spin-off game starting at level 21, or as an egg move in either game. Once learned, the Pokemon will need to use Agile Style Psyshield Bash 20 times in battle before the next level up to evolve into Wyrdeer.

Even if players get a Stantler that knows Psyshield Bash in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, they won’t be able to evolve it. Evolving Stantler to Wyrdeer specifically requires the Agile Style, which is only found in Pokemon Legends: Arceus and has no alternative in Scarlet and Violet.

After Stantler evolves into Wyrdeer, can be transferred back to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet through Pokemon HOME, allowing The Big Horn Pokemon to have a spot on your roster. Its access to the Intimidate ability and Skill Swap move makes it a unique option in double battles.

Is there any way to evolve Stantler into Wyrdeer without Pokemon Legends: Arceus?

There is no way to evolve Stantler into Wyrdeer without transferring it into Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

There is no word yet if there will be an alternative way to evolve Stantler into Wyrdeer in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in the future. Though Stantler can be transferred between Scarlet and Violet, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and Legends: Arceus, only the lattermost game lets players evolve it.

Agile Style

In the same way Feebas, Sylveon, and Vikavolt have had their evolution requirements change to match the mechanics in games past their introduction, there is a possibility that The Pokemon Company will simplify the evolution process for obtaining a Wyrdeer. For now, it remains necessary to own both Pokemon Legends: Arceus and a copy of Pokemon Scarlet or Violet linked with a Pokemon HOME account.

Pokedex completionists can breathe a sigh of relief to know that Wyrdeer isn’t included in either the Paldean or Kitakami Pokedex as of the first DLC. Getting a Wyrdeer in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is something hardcore fans and ranked players can do to show their dedication and not something that will lock the everyday player out of Pokedex completion rewards.
