Marvel Rivals has amassed an incredibly large player base since it was released a few days ago, but some gamers feel a bit left out of the superhero mayhem. Will Marvel Rivals ever make it to the Nintendo Switch?
Often compared to Overwatch 2, Marvel Rivals is a hero shooter that has two teams fighting to take control of points on the map or protect a vehicle as it crosses the map. The heroes and villains all have their own abilities and can team up for special bonuses. After just a few days, Marvel Rivals has been praised for its team-focused gameplay and consumer-friendly practices.
With such great success early on, will the free-to-play FPS ever be on different consoles?
Is Marvel Rivals available on PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch?
Marvel Rivals is not available on the last generation of consoles, so PS4, Xbox One, and Switch players will have to sit this one out.
Right now, Marvel Rivals is only available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It’s not available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch — and that’s due to those platforms having older hardware with less capabilities. Basically, the Switch wouldn’t run Marvel Rivals to a playable degree.
The minimum requirements are as follows.
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit (1909 or newer)
- Processor: Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 / AMD RX 580 / Intel Arc A380
- DirectX: Version 12
- Network: Broadband internet connection
- Storage: 70 GB available space
Will Marvel Rivals come to Nintendo Switch?
Marvel Rivals will likely never come to Nintendo Switch.
In an interview with Pocket Tactics three months ago, game director Thaddeus Sasser said that there was “no discussion” at the moment surrounding a handheld or mobile port of Marvel Rivals. This means that Nintendo Switch, iPads, and phones are likely to never get Marvel Rivals.
However, Marvel Rivals is compatible with the Steam Deck. This was confirmed by NetEase developers on the Marvel Rivals Discord. This could mean that other consoles could get Marvel Rivals down the line, similar to how other popular games were released for earlier gen consoles a year after release.
It could also be possible that Marvel Rivals ports the game onto the Nintendo Switch 2. The yet-to-be officially announced predecessor to the Nintendo Switch is said to have better capabilities than the current system. If the Nintendo Switch 2 has a better processor and graphics, Marvel Rivals could be competitively viable on the new console.
For now, however, it seems like Marvel Rivals has not been focusing on bringing the popular hero shooter to more consoles at this stage.
