Images that are purportedly of a Nintendo Switch 2 factory prototype and its specs might have leaked on Chinese social media.
Fans have been waiting impatiently for the sequel to Nintendo’s popular Switch console. While a great deal of information has come out on the console through cyberattacks and official leaks, Nintendo has kept its lips tight. Nothing is official beyond the console being revealed before the end of March 2025. Not the release dates, not the console’s ability to play PS5 games, nothing is confirmed.
Despite hype among fans and leakers trying to find out everything about the Switch 2, Nintendo is silent. However, a new Switch 2 leak might give fans a real look at the console and its hardware. Two different leakers made posts that are purportedly a mock-up of the Nintendo Switch 2 console and a detailed list of its specs. For the most part, they’re exactly what most fans expected.
This might be a first look at the Nintendo Switch 2
A Chinese social media user claims to have acquired parts of a Nintendo Switch 2 console and leaked images to the public. Alongside some photographs are a 3D model of the unit.
The alleged Nintendo Switch 2 images were shared on a Chinese social media forum. If the images are real then they show the Nintendo Switch 2 is similar to the original in the design department. This aligns with the statement from Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa that the successor to Nintendo Switch will be similar to the original in terms of design and look.
According to the leak, the console has a larger 8-inch screen compared to the 6.2-inch screen of the original Switch and the 7-inch display of the OLED Switch.
Nintendo hasn’t verified the images or issued any statement to deny their authenticity. However, this isn’t the first time a Chinese manufacturer has had its upcoming hardware leaked. PS5 Slim pictures were leaked alongside video of the PS Portal. In both cases, these leaks came long before official announcements.
Though outlets haven’t corroborated the legitimacy of the leaks, the likes of VGC have stated that the leaks are in line with what it has heard from its own sources.
Alongside all of this is a leak regarding the console’s specs. The leak comes from a separate individual from the console images.
The leaker alleges the Switch 2 comes with a significantly higher 12GB RAM compared to the 4GB of the original. Coupled with a larger 256GB UFS 3.1 storage rather than the original’s measly 32GB, and fans can expect to run more demanding games.
If the specs are real then the Nintendo Switch 2 has been beefed up to prepare for modern games. With the other capabilities of the Switch 2, it may be more in line with an Xbox Series S’s capabilities than the original expectation of the original PlayStation 4.
