James “MrBeast” Donaldson and Amazon are facing legal action after Beast Games, but what happened and why?
MrBeast is, by most metrics, the world’s biggest YouTuber. However, he’s been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately, including drama between him and xQc to sexual misconduct allegations leveled against his cohost Ava Kris Tyson. While his videos still continue to garner tens of millions of views his reputation has taken a few major blows in quick succession.
He was positioned to grow his visibility in a more mainstream direction by hosting the largest reality show ever. Beast Games boasts a cash prize of $5 million and is set to air on Amazon Prime. However, after allegations of the Beast Games show being rigged things look bleak for the YouTuber. Contestants have filed a lawsuit and fans wonder why MrBeast is being sued.
Why are the Beast Games contestants suing MrBeast?
MrBeast is being sued by contestants of the upcoming Beast Games show for unsafe working conditions, alleged sexual harassment, and failure to pay minimum wage.
Five unnamed contestants of the Beast Games show have filed a class-action lawsuit against YouTuber MrBeast and Amazon. The case is filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court and alleges the contestants were subjected to “chronic mistreatment” on the game show.
In the redacted filing, the contestants claim MrBeast and Amazon didn’t pay them minimum wage or overtime, and that some contestants even faced sexual harassment. The contestants further claim in the lawsuit that they were deprived of food, sleep, and medical care.
They allege that MrBeast and Amazon didn’t provide basic hygiene necessities. In addition, the lawsuit claims that multiple contestants suffered injuries while shooting and were hospitalized. Meanwhile, other contestants suffered physical and mental complications because of the chronic mistreatment and hostile working conditions.
The lawsuit claims contestants faced sexual harassment and stolen wages
According to the redacted lawsuits, Beast Games contestants allegedly faced sexual harassment and had their wages were stolen.
The lawsuit also claims that female contestants in particular suffered due to the actions of MrBeast and Amazon. Much of the filing is redacted, including references to the sexual harassment claims. However, the lawsuit mentions that the Beast Games misogyny and sexism thrived in the work environment of Beast Games. Further, it claims the production staff did nothing to stop or curb this.
The contestants stated in the lawsuit that they were promised to be compensated as they weren’t volunteers. However, according to the lawsuit MrBeast and Amazon allegedly requested the participants pay them a redacted amount of money for the production expenses.
