Anime fans have waited for Noragami Season 3 for over a decade, but is it finally happening?
Noragami was one of the most popular and top-reviewed shonen anime of its time. Unfortunately, the series has escaped the notice of casual anime fans. The first season in 2013 had the misfortune of being overshadowed by the start of Attack on Titan. The second suffered the same fate with the debuting One Punch Man in 2015.
But while Attack on Titan continued to its conclusion in 2023 and One Punch Man Season 3 is incoming, Noragami fans have been left waiting for nearly a decade. So is there hope for more?
What is Noragami?
Noragami is a manga and anime franchise that follows Yato, a stray god with dreams of becoming the most beloved deity in the world.
However, he’s mostly relegated to menial tasks, and he lacks any temples to his name. All he has is his apathetic Regalia, Yukine, a gloomy teen.
However, everything changes when he crosses paths with a high school girl named Iki Hiyori, who pushes him out of the way of a speeding truck. Although she survives, she realizes her soul now untethers from her body whenever she falls unconscious. The god and girl strike a deal; Hiyori will help Yato become a famous god, and Yato will turn her back to normal. However, Yato’s dark past threatens to change their way of life forever.
Fans got two seasons of Noragami with the second ending on a cliffhanger in 2015. The anime celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2024, but the biggest news is yet to come.
Is Noragami Season 3 happening?
Noragami has a major announcement to celebrate Yato Day on August 10, 2024 and fans hope it’s a prelude to Noragami Season 3.
The official Noragami social media account posted a countdown to Yato Day, teasing a new project. Multiple teasers were spread throughout the first week of August, such as Blu-Ray announcements, a free live stream of Noragami’s first season, and new visuals celebrating the 10th anniversary.
Many fans hope for a third season announcement to celebrate the anniversary. The Noragami manga in January 2024, much to the sadness of fans. The manga’s conclusion convinced many fans that a Season 3 could never happen now. That said, it’s not impossible for manga that have finished their runs to get new seasons, especially if they’re popular.
Alternatively, the project could be a movie that concludes the storyline of Noragami for patient anime fans. Some of the more cynical viewers believe it may be some sort of pachinko or gacha collaboration, which has happened with many beloved anime franchises.
Either way, Noragami fans will have something to chew on in 2024.
