Make Sunday OP with the best build, light cone, and team

Honkai: Star Rail’s patch 2.7 just dropped and players are scrambling to find the best build for the newest five-star character Sunday.

While players might have already farmed all the materials needed for him to operate at his best, there’s still the issue of how to make Sunday work in a team. As a support unit, there’s a lot that can work out for him, especially if paired with the right units and relics, but players will need to learn how he works for him to be a great support.

Sunday pullers can make the most of their new character by giving him the best build, light cone, and team available in Honkai: Star Rail.

How to play Sunday in Honkai: Star Rail

Lucky Sunday pullers should play him as a support for a carry unit, buffing one character as much as they can for them to deal tremendous damage.

Sunday’s main gimmick is his skill Benison of Paper and Rites, which allows Sunday to pick an ally and immediately move their turn up to next in line. It also buffs their damage and critical damage. If that character has a summon like Jing Yuan or the upcoming Aglaea, their summons will also move to be next in line after the selected character’s turn.

This skill synergizes with his ultimate skill Ode to Caress and Cicatrix which also lets Sunday buff a single allied character with some energy regeneration and marks them and their summon as Beautified. Beautified characters have their critical attack buffed by a lot, and if targeted by Sunday’s skill, will also recover one skill point, effectively making the skill a free use. Coupled with his passive talent also buffing critical damage for any ally targeted with his skill, Sunday is an excellent critical damage buffer.

This means that Sunday wants to be in teams where a single character does all the damage, and the other two characters are there to buff and heal the party if need be. Luckily, many healers like Luocha and Gallagher work wonders with most team compositions, so players will only need to think about who to pair with Sunday to achieve maximum damage, and for that, there are a couple of options available.

Best team for Sunday

Sunday’s best team can include Boothill, Jing Yuan, Jingliu, or Dan Heng • Imbibitor Lunae.

Savvy players will want to build a team that can focus on getting as much critical damage as possible or will take advantage of the specific summon buff that he offers to characters like Jing Yuan. Given that Boothill and Jingliu have very strong critical damage offerings in their skills, and they’re usually built for crit damage with their relics, players will have a mighty advantage utilizing these characters to deal massive damage.

Free-to-play players will have to work with some limitations, but they can still make do. Sunday is a very versatile unit, so any free DPS unit like March 7th (Imaginary) and Dan Heng will still work wonders with him.

Best light cone for Sunday

Sunday’s best light cone is his signature gacha light cone A Grounded Ascent, a very powerful light cone that can amplify his strengths as a support.

This light cone lets Sunday give an additional buff to a party member that’s been targeted by his skill or ultimate, which stacks up to three times giving them around 15% more damage. <insert a sentence or two about what this does and why it’s powerful.

A Grounded Ascent best light cone build Sunday

If players don’t have his light cone, they can make do with Earthly Escapade, Chorus, or Past and Future. Mostly any light cone that can boost Sunday’s strengths is worthwhile to level and give to Sunday, but his personal gacha light cone works best. Past and Future is an extremely worthwhile pick here given its availability and versatility, especially considering Sunday’s ability to move allied turns around.

Players pulling for the new five-star should be aware of how all these things work together so they can get the most out of him. Sunday is a great unit, and a versatile one at that, and with the proper build, players can use him in most if not all content.
