Illari has been revealed as the next Overwatch 2 character with an impressive new trailer, and fans can look forward to playing her in Season 6.
Overwatch 2 is getting a new support hero and she has a giant rail gun. The official channel dropped a Season 6 trailer that revealed Illari, a new support hero. The new hero is coming on August 10, along with Season 6.
Illari is the second rail gun-wielding character in the game, but unlike Sojourn, she’s not a straight DPS. The line between a damage dealer and a healer is thin when it comes to certain characters in Overwatch 2. Zenyatta is an excellent ranged support that can deal some respectable damage. Kiriko, the new entrant, is also great at poking enemies. But it seems like Illari will be more like “killer” supports rather than a dedicated healer like Mercy.
What role is Illari in Overwatch 2?
Illari is a support hero that uses the power of the sun.
The new hero hails from Peru, a country that game publishers around the world seem to be courting as her reveal follows the announcement of fellow Peruvian Azucena from Tekken 8. Illari seems to have one offensive and two healing abilities. The trailer only focused on broader gameplay, so more details will come once the hero is released.
From the trailer, a few abilities can be spotted. Illari uses a beam of sunlight as her primary source of damage. She can jump to high places with another ability, though it looks to be quite different from Baptiste’s mobility options. Illari also has a drone that can cling to walls. Her ultimate launches her into the air as she shoots an explosive ball of solar energy.
Illari may have more to offer, but that remains to be seen. Most healers have multiple ways to heal allies, but Illari only has her drone so it’s possible another healing ability will be revealed.
Here’s what is coming in Overwatch 2 Season 6
Overwatch 2 Season 6 will add Illari alongside the new Flashpoint game mode and a new map.
There are three story-based cooperative missions on sale for $15. A new core PvP mode called Flashpoint is coming with two new maps in New Junk City and Suravasa. Flashpoint tasks teams with capturing three points across these new maps. New solo hero mastery missions are also coming next month.
Overwatch 2 had a rocky start and the developers faced enormous backlash after scrapping PvE plans. Season 6 aims to deliver some of the promised content in a limited way. The fact that these are paid missions doesn’t sit well with the fans.
