The Last of Us Season 2 is in production after the first season’s success and fans now know which actors will play the role of Abby and other characters in the Salt Lake Crew.
The Last of Us Season 1 was a major success despite being a live-action adaptation of a video game, a formula that was seemingly destined for failure a few short years ago. With several award nominations and awards, including nine Emmys, the HBO show’s second season was confirmed to be in production. The season is confirmed to adapt at least part of The Last of Us Part 2 video game and will fold in lost levels and deleted content.
The Last of Us Season 2 will likely include a handful of familiar faces, and fans now know which actors will play some of the members of the Salt Lake Crew. This includes confirmation of the actress that will play Abby, one of the two protagonists of The Last of Us Part 2. The season might actually be the last time fans see Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann work on The Last of Us, as he recently discussed leaving game development.
New characters coming in The Last of Us Season 2
The Last of Us Season 2 is set to introduce a handful of characters who will likely go after Ellie and her loved ones. Five of the eight members of the Salt Lake crew, also known as “Abby’s Crew,” are confirmed to be joining the cast. These characters include Abby Anderson, Manny Alvarez, Nora Harris, Mel, and Owen Moore.
Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Dever)
Abigail Anderson, better known as Abby, is a playable dual protagonist in The Last of Us 2. She’s the daughter of Jerry Anderson, the head surgeon who worked for the Fireflies. Jerry is killed by Joel during his rescue of Ellie at the end of the show’s first season, with Abby swearing vengeance for this.
Playing Abby in The Last of Us Season 2 is Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actress Kaitlyn Dever. Dever is best known for her roles in Unbelievable, Dopesick, and Justified. Dever also notably appeared in Uncharted 4 as the voice, face, and mo-cap actress for Cassie Drake, Nathan’s daughter.
Owen Moore (Spencer Lord)
Owen Moore is a former member of the Fireflies, although he joins the Washington Liberation Front with the rest of the Salt Lake Crew after the Fireflies disband. While he dated Abby at some point, he broke up with her for unknown reasons and started dating Mel. Despite being a soldier of the WLF, Owen craves peace, which becomes increasingly difficult as the WLF’s war with the Seraphites continues.
The character of Owen will be played by Spencer Lord in The Last of Us Season 2. Lord is best known for his roles in Family Law, Riverdale, and The Good Doctor, although this will be his first acting gig since 2022.
Manny Alvarez (Danny Ramirez)
Another member of the Washington Liberation Front, or WLF, Manny Alvarez grew up in Mexico with his father but joined the Fireflies and got stationed at St. Mary’s Hospital during the events of The Last of Us 1 Season 1. He and Owen were the first to discover Jerry’s body after Joel killed him.
Manny’s talent is why he rose to the rank of lieutenant and became second-in-command of Abby’s squad. He’s considered one of the best WLF soldiers alongside Abby, who he’s close friends with. The actor playing Manny is Danny Ramirez, known best for his roles in The Gifted and Top Gun: Maverick and his recurring role as Joaquin Torres in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Mel (Ariela Barer)
Mel’s last name is unknown, but she plays a pivotal role in The Last of Us Part 2 video game. She was trained under Jerry Anderson, on the recommendation of Abby. Mel eventually becomes pregnant with Owen, which causes Owen to grow distant and closed off, something Mel blames Abby for.
The actor playing Mel is Ariela Barer, best known for playing Gert Yorkes in the Hulu original series Marvel’s Runaways. The actress also had minor roles in shows like Modern Family, New Girl, and Grey’s Anatomy.
Nora Harris (Tati Gabrielle)
Nora Harris is another former Fireflies member who trained as a medical officer under Jerry Anderson. While she displays a cold exterior to those she dislikes or isn’t close to, Nora is extremely loyal to her friends.
Tati Gabrielle, best known for her roles in The 100, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and You, will play Nora in The Last of Us Season 2. Her portrayal of Nora won’t be the first time Tati is involved in the live-action adaptation of a Naughty Dog game, as she also played Jo Braddock in the 2022 Uncharted movie.
