Player homes are coming to WoW, but when will they arrive?

World of Warcraft player home teaser

Blizzard just announced player homes for World of Warcraft, but the release date might not be particularly satisfying for fans.

World of Warcraft remains one of the industry’s top MMORPGs, and it’s not leaving anytime soon. The return of iconic Warcraft creator Chris Metzen to Blizzard also gave fans hope for the MMORPG’s future. Right now, World of Warcraft is amid the War Within story arc and players are actually excited to see how it goes.

Along with new stories, Blizzard has teased many long-awaited features for the expansion. At the end of the November 2024 Warcraft Direct, Blizzard teased a warrior sitting by the hearth. Decorations from past expansions adorn their home’s walls. After two decades, player homes are finally coming to World of Warcraft.

When will player homes arrive in World of Warcraft?

Blizzard confirmed player homes will arrive with the World of Warcraft: Midnight expansion sometime after 2025.

Unfortunately, for fans itching to mount trophies of raid bosses, player homes won’t be coming anytime soon.  According to The War Within roadmap for 2025, Blizzard will officially reveal World of Warcraft: Midnight in Summer 2025. However, the expansion isn’t scheduled to be released until 2026.

“We want to give players a little sneak preview of some of what the team is cooking. This also gives us a chance, I think, to have more open conversations about it that aren’t possible when it’s a top-secret feature,” said WoW director Ion Hazzikostas in an interview with PC Gamer.

With Blizzard admitting how early into development player houses are, at least it provides fans with a glimpse of what the team is working on. For many players, the most exciting prospect of a player’s home comes from the acquisition of decorations.  The teaser trailer showed iconic artifacts from previous expansions, such as the black dragon Onyxia’s head mounted on a wall.

Fans theorize that home decorations can be acquired by revisiting old expansions and completing raids. If this becomes true, then it’s a clever way for Blizzard to reignite interest in older expansions and raids. It’s also a fantastic way to support evergreen content for World of Warcraft as expansions release at a more relaxed pace.

Interestingly, the teaser ends with “Your next adventure begins at home,” implying World of Warcraft: Midnight’s story may begin in the player’s humble abode.  This leads players to believe that player homes will be available right from the start of the next expansion.
