Pokemon Scarlet and Violet shiny Rayquaza event, date confirmed

shiny rayquaza pokemon

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are set to give players a special treat in the form of a shiny Rayquaza tera raid event, and its date has been revealed.

Despite a rocky launch, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have delivered players a steady churn of exciting events. The bulk of these have been seven-star tera raid events starring Mightiest Mark versions of every starter, ever. But alongside this have been other, smaller events that offer rare Pokemon and special items.

A shiny Rayquaza is one of the biggest prizes seen in the game thus far. Surprisingly, players will have a much easier time getting it than some of the other event Pokemon that have appeared thus far.

Shiny Rayquaza raid event dates confirmed for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

The shiny Rayquaza raid event will run from December 20, 2024 to January 5, 2025.

This is a comparatively long time for a raid event in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which typically have events that run for one week or across multiple weekends. This one running for 17 days will afford players extra time across the holiday season.

Surprisingly, the shiny Rayquaza will be featured in five-star Tera raid crystals. This is markedly different from 2023’s Mew and Mewtwo raid event, which had a special Mew mystery gift distribution beforehand and a seven-star Mewtwo. A five-star raid, even one involving a legendary Pokemon, will be easily manageable for players in both solo and multiplayer settings.

The Rayquaza is also guaranteed to have a dragon Tera type. This should allow players to handle it with commonly used Pokemon like Azumarill.

As with the past special Tera raid events starring Iron Leaves, Walking Wake, Palkia, and Dialga, players can only catch one on their save file. Those with multiple profiles on their Nintendo Switch and a linked NSO account can catch one on each profile.

Before the shiny Rayquaza event’s start date, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will run three other Tera raid events featuring Pokemon that are powerful in Tera raid battles. Their dates and the featured Pokemon are as follows:

  • November 29 to December 5– Corviknight, Bellibolt
  • December 6 to December 12– Azumarill, Clodsire
  • December 13 to 19– Annihilape, Kingambit

Each of these will be accompanied by special mass outbreaks. Tinkatink will be available during the first event, Wooper will appear during the second, and Girafarig will run during the last of these events. Each of these mass outbreak events will give the featured Pokemon increased shiny odds and a mark.
