Pokemon TCG Pocket: The best ways & tricks to get rare cards

Rares in Pokemon Pocket TCG

Pokemon TCG Pocket brings the dopamine hits with pack openings and wonder picks, but what’s the best way to get rare cards, and is there a trick to it?

As the most lucrative video game franchise worldwide, Pokemon excels at getting players obsessed with catching ’em all. The newly-released Pokemon TCG Pocket features over 200 unique cards with many variations of art and rarity. Naturally, many players want to grab them quickly, which means a lot of virtual pack openings.

On the surface, it may feel like the player has no agency on their pulls. The odds of each rarity in Pokemon TCG Pocket are bluntly explained by the game itself. Hunting for individual cards is practically impossible, outside of crafting. However, increasing the odds of getting high-quality rare cards is something players can do. Ultimately, every TCG is a numbers game, and players can do certain things to up those chances.

The best ways to get rare cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket

Players can increase their chances of getting rare cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket by increasing both the number of cards they’re getting and the pool of cards available in Wonder Picks. Though players are still dealing with steep odds when it comes to getting rare cards, they’re considerably better than a fully casual approach. Here are the best methods for getting rare cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket.

Exploit Wonder Picks with friends

Wonder Picks are a fantastic source for rare cards.

Compared to packs, which can vary wildly, Wonder Picks have the benefit of allowing players to see what they can get. Avoid spending Wonder Picks on anything that costs less than three Wonder Stamina. The lower the stamina cost, the more likely those cards will be something the player can pull regularly from packs.

It’s better to save Wonder Stamina for high-quality picks. To maximize the chances of good Wonder Picks, players should add friends who are regular players, especially if they buy packs with real money.

Alternatively, add opponents from online matches with multiple rare cards in their deck. Doing so means more packs and more chances of a high-quality Wonder Pick.

Open packs every day

Players should strive to open at least four packs a day to speed up their rare hunt in Pokemon Pocket TCG.

The free packs every 12 hours only stack up to two. However, the players can bypass the wait with Hourglasses. Whether from daily quests, event rewards, solo battles, or leveling up, gaining and spending Hourglasses quickly is highly encouraged.

Otherwise, every missed day means two packs farther from the rares a player truly wants. Since Pokemon TCG Pocket has no known pity system, there’s no real point in storing hourglasses unless there’s an upcoming expansion.
