Although many of these nominations were to be expected, fans have been wondering why games like Final Fantasy 16, Starfield, and Hogwarts Legacy were not nominated. In contrast, some fans are also voicing their concerns over Resident Evil 4, a remake, securing a nomination over fully original games.

Larian Studios’ hit game Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a critical and commercial success attracting both veterans of the series and novices alike. Not only has it received eight nominations this year, but it also already stole the show at the Golden Joystick Awards 2023.
Alongside Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2 has also been nominated for eight different categories, making them both the most-nominated games of the show. Alan Wake 2 was released less than three weeks before the announcement of the Game of the Year nominees. The game has enjoyed rave reviews and has close proximity to the actual show, which could help it go over the edge.
