The Game Awards is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and fans now know the date and location of 2023’s installment of the event.
Gaming awards aren’t new but fans have been spoiled over the last 10 years with the glitzy Game Awards events. The shows have paid homage to the best games of the year while also teasing fans with some brand-new game announcements. The history of the Game Awards reaches back a bit further than that, as host Geoff Keighley worked on the Spike Video Game Awards for about a decade before that as well.
The video game industry has certainly had its ups and downs since then, but there’s no denying the excitement that comes with The Game Awards. Fans now know what day they should clear off on their calendar.
When and where is The Game Awards happening this year?
The Game Awards will be live on December 7, 2023 and will air from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The date has been set, but more details won’t be announced until closer to the event. December is always a great month for awards shows, and this year will be a rough one the Game Awards. A number of major titles have hit shelves and garnered critical praise already. Meanwhile, guaranteed blockbusters like new Bethesda RPG Starfield, Spider-Man 2, and FromSoftware’s Armored Core 6 haven’t even been released yet.
Alongside the many blockbuster games that will share the spotlight, fans can look forward to some major reveals. Gameplay footage of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild was revealed at The Game Awards in 2014 and titles like Armored Core 6 have been revealed at the event. It’s unknown what could get unveiled, but fans will likely see something of interest at The Game Awards 2023.
What are the game of the year contenders in 2023?
Street Fighter 6, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Baldur’s Gate 3 all rank as contenders for 2023 Game of the Year honors.
It’s arguable that 2023 is looking to be a much closer race than 2022. Last year, fans were confident that Elden Ring would snag the coveted Game of the Year award and this came to pass. This year’s stacked roster of GOTY candidates means that no fandom can feel particularly safe about their favorite taking home the prize.
It’s certainly a tough year to decide the winner, but that just means it was a great year for gaming as a whole. Fans will ultimately be able to find out the 2023 Game of the Year, and all the other winners, at The Game Awards.
