Netflix Games is making major moves across the gaming industry and a partnership with Atlus could let the company bring iconic RPG series Shin Megami Tensei and Persona under its umbrella.
Atlus was already a big name in gaming, but Persona 5 propelled it to new heights. Several Atlus titles are in the works, including the fresh IP Metaphor: ReFantazio and Persona 3 Reload, a remake of the first modern Persona game. But there are also claims that Atlus is developing games for Netflix’s gaming platform, or will be bringing some of its other titles to the service.
The news comes from a post made by Atlus leaker MbKKssTBhz5, who has accurately leaked information on several Atlus titles in the past including revealing the Persona 5 Tactica DLC and scooping the company on the announcement of Persona 3 Reload. It’s not entirely clear what these plans entail, but they reportedly include the Shin Megami Tensei series.
Is the Shin Megami Tensei series coming to Netflix?
Atlus could be partnered with Netflix and set to offer games related to the Shin Megami Tensei series for those subscribed to the streaming service.
In a follow-up to the post claiming that Atlus was developing “multiple titles for the Netflix mobile game platform,” leaker MbKKssTBhz5 stated that one of those titles was “related to Shin Megami Tensei.” While bringing previous Shin Megami Tensei titles, and possibly spin-offs like the Persona games, to Netflix would make sense, similar to what Rockstar did with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy Definitive Editon, the leaker’s usage of words indicates that the studio might have other plans.
MbKKssTBhz5 is explicit that Atlus is “developing” titles, with one of them being “related to Shin Megami Tensei.” This suggests that this will be a new game or a new release related to the series.
It’s possible that these could be a new spin-off in the series. There is already a mobile spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei with SMT: Liberation Dx2. The company could also seek to port some of its back catalog from the series to mobile devices and release them through Netflix Games.
Is the Persona series coming to Netflix?
There is no indication that Atlus is working on bringing the Persona series to Netflix.
Atlus has publicly revealed one mobile spin-off of Persona 5 in Persona 5: The Phantom X. The game has had multiple beta tests in China, but Atlus has not detailed any plans for a release in other markets. There were also previous reports of Atlus having talks with Pokemon GO developer Niantic regarding the possibility of a Persona game, which would presumably be in the same vein as its AR collect-a-thons.
MbKKssTBhz5 posted on X claiming that multiple Atlus titles were being developed for Netflix, not just the Shin Megami Tensei game. Persona is Atlus’ hottest IP but it’s unclear whether anything Persona-related could wind up on Netflix Games.
Alternatively, it’s possible that Persona 5: The Phantom X could come out through Netflix Games or could have some manner of rewards or bonus content through the service. However, it’s unknown whether Atlus will add either a mainline or spin-off Persona title to Netflix Games.
