Considering the low sales and reviews of recent Marvel video game releases, is Marvel going to continue making more games?
Marvel Studios has sadly had a lot of hit-or-miss releases with their games in recent years, with titles such as Midnight Suns being a “commercial failure,” according to its developers. This was an action role-playing game that required players to use cards in order to pick what attack moves their hero would use against enemies, and it failed to take off.
Marvel’s Avengers was yet another title to release within the past few years and came to a fall as well, only having been out three years before support ended this past September. It seems Marvel’s gaming studios won’t let this string of failures get them down, though.
New Marvel video games announced
Marvel has announced plans to release more video games, even after its last few releases did not go so well. In the past, there have been many games from Marvel that were successful, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man. These are the pieces of evidence that show the company is capable of producing great games.
Marvel’s Spider-Man is a great example of what the company is capable of creating, and with the future release of Marvel’s Wolverine under the stewardship of the same development team, it could be possible to see another big hit for Marvel.
Another video game that Marvel has lined up for the future already in development is a new Iron Man title made on Unreal Engine 5.
The upcoming titles for Marvel don’t stop there, as they also have an upcoming Black Panther title and another game developed by Skydance Media that is yet to be titled featuring both Black Panther and Captain America.
Marvel could be planning for something big. There have been many posts across social media indicating that Marvel Studios is planning an even bigger push into gaming, which can be assumed by how many upcoming titles they have coming into play soon.
After the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the next release will be Wolverine, which is said to be released between 2024 and 2025 and will be another PlayStation 5 launch exclusive. There isn’t much announced yet for what to expect from this particular title, but it is currently labeled as an action-adventure game with an open world, following in the footsteps of the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man’s successes.
The chances of Marvel’s Studios games turning around are high if developers stick to making games on the level of Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
