Mavuika, the Pyro Archon of Natlan, has finally arrived in Genshin Impact, which means that figuring out the best way to build her is a top priority for many players.
Archons have consistently proven to be a worthy use of primogems and intertwined fates, with past releases including Venti, Zhongli, Raiden Shogun, Nahida and Furina all showing their incredible value both in combat and exploration. In version 5.4, Mavuika, the Pyro Archon, is all set to reveal exactly what she’s capable of.
Breaking speculation and expectations of being a five-star Xiangling or Bennett, Mavuika surprises everyone by being a Main DPS that also doubles as an off-field pyro applicator. She lives up to the high standards of an Archon, potentially rivaling top-tier DPS the likes of Arlecchino and Neuvillette, assuming her level and talents are maxed out with the right materials and that she’s built properly.
With that, here’s how to actually play Mavuika, and her best artifact, weapons, and teams.
How to play Mavuika in Genshin Impact
Mavuika’s abilities place her into two main archetypes; main DPS and sub-DPS, akin to the Electro Archon of Inazuma, Raiden Shogun.
Mavuika’s playstyle and role come down to how her elemental skill is used. Tapping this skill summons Ring of Searing Radiance, allowing Mavuika to land attacks that hit like orbital strikes around her every two seconds. These strikes will continue raining down and bombarding enemies with pyro damage, even when Mavuika isn’t on the field, making her a sub-DPS with a respectable pyro application.
If she’s running as the main DPS, holding elemental skill is the play. This puts her on the Flamestrider that not only boosts the damage of all her normal attacks, but also unlocks some other pretty strong moves. When players throw in cryo and hydro characters, she becomes even deadlier. While both normal and charged attack combos have some exquisite animations, she can inflict more damage by doing the latter.
Mavuika’s elemental burst is the first in Genshin Impact to not require energy. Instead, it runs on Fighting Spirits, which only stack up when party members consume Nightsoul Points or when the active unit’s normal attacks hit enemies. Travelers can gather up to 200 Fighting Spirits this way, but only 100 are needed to activate her burst. Casting her burst at 200 is the ideal play for maximum damage output.
Besides dealing six-digit numbers through her burst, the active character also enjoys a 40% damage increase.
Best Genshin Impact Mavuika artifacts
For the best Mavuika build in Genshin Impact, equip artifacts such as a 4-piece Obsidian Codex, Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City, or Marechaussee Hunter.
Main DPS Mavuika – 4-piece Obsidian Codex
When building a Natlan as main DPS, Obsidian Codex is the go-to set, and Mavuika benefits from it just as much. This is easily the best set for a main DPS Mavuika build, thanks to its 15% damage boost and the 40% crit rate it provides. These boosts directly amplify her damage, but they only work while she’s active on the field. Another caveat is that she cannot fully utilize its four-piece set effect during her elemental burst window, as she stops consuming Nightsoul points through its duration.
Sub-DPS support Genshin Mavuika build – 4-piece Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City
If Mavuika is supporting another unit and no other party member has the set, the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City is the best choice. When elemental reactions such as Burning, Burgeon, Vaporize, Melt and Overload are present, the team gains access to a total of 40% elemental damage boost.
Mavuika build with Furina – 4-piece Marechaussee Hunter
Marechaussee Hunter enhances the Pyro Archon’s normal and charged attack damage during her elemental skill, along with offering a 36% crit rate boost. It rivals Obsidian Codex in performance, but the requirement is that Furina must be on the team with another Natlan healer. When Furina is present, it triggers an HP fluctuation mechanic that enables Mavuika to take full advantage of the Marechaussee Hunter set.
Best Mavuika weapons in Genshin Impact
A Thousand Blazing Suns, Mavuika’s signature weapon, tops the list of the best weapons for her. Players who can’t afford to vertically invest in her still won’t be left entirely behind as they can find a range of viable weapons to use, whether Mavuika is a main or sub-DPS.
A Thousand Blazing Suns (5-star)
A Thousand Blazing Suns has everything Mavuika needs. While its crit rate may seem lackluster, it makes up for it with a boost in crit damage and a massive amount of ATK. Whether she’s a main DPS or sub-DPS, this weapon will works wonders for her as she doesn’t lose out on buffs when she’s off the field.
Since her signature weapon boasts the highest base ATK, Mavuika’s signature weapon gives players the flexibility to use EM sands in reaction-based compositions.
Beacon of the Reed Sea (5-star)
Beacon of the Reed Sea is generally an impressive weapon for any claymore DPS. Much like the first option, Mavuika can gain plenty of attack and crit rate by equipping this weapon.
Regardless of her role, she can fully utilize the passive effect because it works even when she’s not on the field. But unlike these other weapons, Beacon of the Reed Sea is a difficult weapon to obtain. Players can only get it by pulling on Dehya’s banner, which is unlikely to make a return, or via future Chronicled banners.
Verdict (5-star)
Verdict is also a solid alternative to her signature weapon, especially if the team includes another Geo unit like Xilonen or Kachina, who can help trigger Crystallize. But even without those units, Verdict still serves as an excellent stat stick.
Fang of the mountain king (5-star)
Fang of the Mountain King is another crit rate weapon that becomes a strong choice when Mavuika is on a Burning or Burgeon team. With Dendro units triggering either of these reactions, Mavuika can boost both her elemental skill and burst damage.
Serpent Spine (4-star)
With its relatively high crit rate and base attack, Serpent Spine ranks as one of the best 4-star weapons for Mavuika. But players should keep in mind that maintaining full stacks requires staying on the field for 20 seconds. Additionally, it may be out of reach for some players as it’s exclusive to the paid version of the game’s battle pass.
Mailed Flower (4-star)
The best free-to-play weapon for Genshin Mavuika build is Mailed Flower, particularly at R5. It allows Mavuika to stack elemental mastery and attack, both of which shine in teams that rely on elemental reactions.
Best Genshin Impact Mavuika teams
Like every other Archon in Genshin Impact, Mavuika fits into a variety of team compositions, whether as an on-field main DPS or off-field sub-DPS. Players can build a hypercarry team around her or use her pyro application to facilitate reactions. She likely pairs best with Natlan characters or on-field characters who focus on normal attacks, all thanks to her elemental burst.
Best Mavuika Natlan hypercarry team – Mavuika, Bennett, Citlali, and Xilonen
Being a Pyro DPS with huge damage multipliers means Mavuika can take advantage of strong elemental reactions like Melt. With a Cryo off-fielder and Natlan buffers, she can deliver massive blows to her enemies.
A team featuring Bennett, Citlali, and Xilonen offers the best premium setup for Mavuika in Genshin Impact. Citlali has all the right buffs to push Mavuika’s damage even further. She triggers Melt with her off-field cryo application and shreds Pyro resistance, effectively doubling or tripling her damage. As a Natlan catalyst user, she also adds buffs from Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers and Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City.
Meanwhile, Xilonen and Bennett can join the team to accrue more resistance shred, as well as a flat ATK buff. Apart from these buffs, all three characters are all sustain units that can bring about additional shielding and healing. Additionally, with two Natlan off-field units around, she can accumulate Fighting Spirits much faster.
Mavuika sub-DPS vaporize team – Mualani, Kazuha, Mavuika and Xilonen,
Mualani is a strong Hydro hypercarry with lots of frontload damage and high damage ceiling. Mavuika’s tap skill turns her into a sub-DPS that applies pyro damage over time. Together they can proc vaporize, which cranks up damage for the both of them. To further boost both their damage, Kazuha and Xilonen can be slotted in for more damage buffs, debuffs, healing, and crowd control.
Free-to-play Mavuika overload team – Mavuika, Ororon, Chevreuse and Bennett
Like Arlecchino, Mavuika isn’t limited to Melt and Vape, but with Overload as well. Thankfully, her best-in-slot overload team consists mostly of four-star units, which is perfect either for players new to the game or for free-to-play users.
Mavuika and Chevreuse make up the core of the team. When the team is made up of only Electro and Pyro units, and Overload is triggered, Chevreuse can provide ATK% boosts along with Electro and Pyro resistance shreds.
For the Electro side, Ororon is a great pick. He offers frequent off-field electro application. As a Natlan unit, he works well with the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City set, and being able to consume Nightsoul Points allows him to help Mavuika in building up Fighting Spirits stacks. Round out the team by choosing Bennett, who is one of Mavuika’s best buffers and healers.
This team is a great option for F2P players. Not only are these characters and their constellations easier to access, they’re also not too costly or complicated to build.
