The official date and time for PlayStation’s next State of Play showcase has been revealed and it will likely boast new trailers and details for Death Stranding 2, the Silent Hill 2 remake, and more.
With the recent Xbox Developer Direct showcasing heavy hitters such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Avowed, PlayStation has some catching up to do. With the death of E3 last year and The Game Awards having recently passed, Sony will need to showcase its major upcoming releases on its own. That won’t be too much of a problem though, as its State of Play events have proven to be a major success.
Following multiple reports from prominent personalities, Sony confirmed the. Not only that but claims from reporters and leakers across the gaming industry have painted a picture of what 2024’s first State of Play may look like. If true, then Xbox has some fierce competition.
2024 PlayStation State of Play date and time officially confirmed
The next State of Play will be on January 31 at 4 pm ET or 10 pm GMT.
Reports of the event happening on this day swirled even before it was officially announced on official social media channels. Nick Baker of the Xbox Era podcast stated that the 31st would “roughly” be the showcase day. Podcaster NateTheHate corroborated this in a series of social media posts. adding that the date would be either January 31 or February 1.
On January 29, the exact date and time for the next State of Play was confirmed. Xbox made several moves last year to strengthen its exclusive offerings with the likes of Starfield and Hi-Fi Rush and had the first major showcase event of 2024. A new State of Play is Sony’s chance to continue their first-party power and highlight some of its upcoming major exclusives. Though it will be hard to match the non-stop blitz of major video game releases that was seen in 2023, there are a slew of major releases coming to PlayStation 5 in 2024 that can be highlighted here.
Death Stranding 2, Silent Hill 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth likely to headline State of Play
Games such as Death Stranding 2, Silent Hill 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will reportedly make an appearance at State of Play.
Other titles specifically named by Baker include Rise of the Ronin, a Sonic Generations Remaster, a new Metro game, and a game from Bioshock director Ken Levine titled Judas. Fans will likely note that the lineup is largely comprised of sequels, remakes, and remasters rather than original IPs. Other major upcoming exclusives could buck this, with new IPs Stellar Blade and Concord on the horizon.
Although most of these details are from various notable reporters in the industry, Hideo Kojima retweeted the December 2022 trailer for Death Stranding 2 surrounding these reports. Kojima’s social media activity often teases what he’s working on, and there were previous teases from Kojima Productions employees that a State of Play event was slated for early 2023. A retweet of a trailer still fresh in people’s minds may be Kojima teasing the likelihood of a new trailer at the showcase.
