Fans of the Mortal Kombat series are buzzing about which characters will be included in the franchise’s latest release, and now it looks as though Reiko and Motaro could be coming to MK1.
Developer NetherRealm Studios has been teasing out new information in the few months leading up to the release of MK1. The team is building hype primarily by showing off the characters coming to the game, and fans are excited for each new bit of information.
Story trailer leak shows Reiko and Motaro in MK1
Following the release of a new story mode trailer that introduced and confirmed multiple characters coming to the game, screenshots were shared from a potentially unrelease story mode trailer that brought yet more characters into the game. This story trailer leak includes Reiko and Motaro appearing in MK1.

Motaro made his debut as a boss character in Mortal Kombat 3, taking the position previously held by monstrous boss characters Goro and Kintaro. Motaro was made playable in the mash-up game Mortal Kombat Trilogy, and was featured occasionally later on. An appearance in Mortal Kombat 1 would be the first for Motaro since the series was rebooted in 2011.
Reiko was introduced one game later, in Mortal Kombat 4. This was the first three-dimensional title in the fighting game series. The character was redesigned for Mortal Kombat Armaggedon, and from the looks of the apparent leak, it would seem that this redesign is the basis for Reiko in MK1.
This follows the official reveal of three new playable characters: Li-Mei, Baraka, and Tanya. There are also new story mode details revealed, such as Baraka’s animalistic appearance being owed to a transformative disease rather than his belonging to a unique race of people. The same disease is apparently contracted by Mileena, as hinted at in yet another story trailer for the game.
With a release date rapidly approaching on September 14, 2023, fans are looking forward to even more character reveals, and potential leaks.
