Warhammer 40k franchise is among the biggest tabletop gaming franchises in the world, right behind Dungeons and Dragons. After all, the franchise’s over-the-top setting, expansive lore, and grimdark badassery made it a hit amongst millions of players. Of course, it’s not just the tabletop attracting new blood.
Video games such as Total War: Warhammer and Boltgun showcase the setting’s seamless adaptation to the digital space. Plenty of other games have paid homage or even had collaborations with Warhammer. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is one of the most beloved pieces of digital media associated with the game, and the sequel announcement made fans quite excited. One such fan revealed details about the game in their excitement, well before its official release.

The official Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 artbook reveals a PvP multiplayer mode.
A fan uploaded an in-depth look at the Space Marine 2 artbook on his YouTube channel. One of the most notable sections is on PvP, which confirms competitive multiplayer and the playable factions within the mode.
The PvP section focused on the Chaos side. The Chaos Space Marine chapters of the Death Guard, Black Legion, Iron Warriors, Night Lords, Alpha Legion, and World Eaters appear as playable factions. Interestingly, the note classifies the art as “early concepts for Chaos Space Marine classes.” Whether the final product will retain these factions as the class representatives remains unknown.
Who are the main villains of Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2?
The official artbook reveals Tyranids and the Thousand Sons Chaos Space Marine chapter as the main villains. Although the Tyranids have been known, the revelation of Thousand Sons’ involvement does add an interesting wrinkle to the plot. Warhammer 40k fans are all too familiar with the Thousand Sons and their involvement with the Chaos God of Change, Tzeentch.
Whatever’s agitated the Tyranids may have something to do with whatever dark ritual the Thousand Sons are attempting. Either way, fans only have to wait a few months to know more. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will launch on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on September 9, 2024.
