Total War: Warhammer 3 has unveiled the trailer for the Shadows of Change expansion pack, which brings new lords, heroes, and a monstrous tentacled creature.
Creative Assembly’s foray into the fantastical has been a massive success for their flagship Total War series. While slightly overshadowed by the announcement of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC release date, armchair generals have been patiently waiting to see which of their favorite lords and units will make the jump from the tabletop to the desktop.
With the release of the trailer, the speculation on units can be put to bed in favor of excitement, disappointment, and bemoaning the ever-increasing cost of playing video games. Here’s what’s coming with the Total War: Warhammer 3 Shadows of Change expansion.
When will Shadows of Change release in Total War: Warhammer 3?
The Shadows of Change pack will arrive in Total War: Warhammer 3 on August 31.
The action-packed trailer showcased the variety of incoming units and gave fans a lot to get excited about. It also gave them a definitive release date. The wait won’t be going on for much longer, though some fans weren’t particularly excited about the reveals.
How much does Shadows of Change cost?
Total War: Warhammer 3’s Shadows of Change expansion will cost $25.
The great community consternation surrounding Shadows of Change is the cost. While earlier lord packs such as The Twisted and the Twilight for Warhammer 2 launched at $10, Shadows of Change is currently up for pre-order at $25.
Even when compared to more recent Warhammer 3 expansions, this places Shadows of Change at the same cost as the recent Forge of the Chaos Dwarves. This is at odds with the practices of Warhammer 2’s lifespan, where the lord packs were cheaper than the race packs. This comes on the heels of another controversy over the Chorf’s price tag, where the bundle of three Legendary Lords instead of the traditional four had fans feeling short-changed.
Will the Monkey King be in Shadows of Change?
The Monkey King will not be in Shadows of Change.
Despite rampant speculation that the Shadows of Change lord pack would feature the Changeling vs Cathay’s infamous Monkey King, it seems that fans will have to wait a while longer before they can return to monke.
Rather, the Grand Cathay faction will be represented by the Jade Dragon, Yuan Bo, sibling to Miao Ying and Zhao Ming and son of the fabled Dragon Emperor. He’ll face off against the aforementioned Changeling, representing Tzeentch alongside the Blue Scribes who appear as a Legendary Hero, and Mother Ostankya. Mother Ostankya is Warhammer’s answer to the Baba Yaga, who brings the magic of the wilds to Kislev’s roster of icy sentinels. There’s no sign of Ostankya’s chicken-legged house as of yet, but fans are holding out hope that the murder coop will feature as a mount option.
