Remnant 2 offers a strong co-op experience, but players naturally want to have the option for crossplay. There is hope on this front, though.
Co-op games thrive when more people play them, so the absence of Remnant 2 crossplay feels jarring. The shooter has randomly generated levels to differentiate itself from other games in the genre, and is rated as one of the best Soulslike games around. The trouble is that it’s a game that’s best played with friends as teaming up changes the difficulty of encounters and nets better rewards.
A lot of co-op games are implementing crossplay features. Even an established title like Borderlands 3 recently introduced crossplay, allowing players from Xbox, PlayStation, and PC to team up. Modern co-op games feel like they’re missing a piece without crossplay, but things may change for Remnant 2 in the future.
Does Remnant 2 have crossplay?
Remnant 2 will add crossplay in the future, but does not have it now.
In a recently held question and answer session with fans, game director David Adams confirms that crossplay may be coming to the game. Fans asked about the missing feature, and Adams a response that left many fans hopeful.
“We are looking at it. There are issues with the different platforms and what they require in order to allow crossplay, but it is actively worked on,” Adams said.
From the sounds of it, developers are hard at work implementing the feature. Unfortunately, there is no estimated release date for a Remnant 2 crossplay update. Crossplay could be in the next big update or it could be a while before players can join friends using different gaming platforms.
What is crossplay?
Crossplay is an option in video games that lets players join multiplayer sessions with people playing on other gaming platforms. This can include Xbox and PlayStation players being able to share games together, or even joining up with those on mobile devices or PCs.
Not everyone owns all gaming platforms and being able to easily join up with friends across all devices has been a huge boon to games like Fortnite. This way, players can still play together without purchasing another platform.
Call of Duty, Borderlands 3, Destiny 2, Overwatch 2, and Rocket League all have crossplay functionality. Dying Light 2 launched without crossplay functionality and received criticism for its omission.
Remnant 2 developer Gunfire Games has been busy with the patches and updates. The studio released the first major patch for the game, improving performance and stability. Remnant 2 surpassed 1 million sales, an impressive number for a relatively niche game.
