One of the biggest mysteries for the Hololive fandom was the fate of Omega, but Takanashi Kiara finally shed some light on the mystery.
Hololive has grown significantly since the debut of Tokino Sora, COVER Corp’s first idol, in 2017. Initially, the roster only featured members residing in Japan. As the virtual idol agency saw more success, it expanded its reach internationally and its stars appeared in video games and sporting events. The first generation of Hololive English debuted in September 2020, which was followed by another wave in 2021.
While they also found similar success, a mysterious sixth character was teased to debut in November 2021. Only known as “Omega,” they began leaving cryptic tweets and teasers, leaving fans intrigued by the character’s lore and design. Strangely, nothing ever came of the Omega project after 2021, until Takanashi Kiara’s latest off-collab with Advent’s Shiori Novella revealed its ultimate fate.
What happened to Omega from Hololive?
Omega quietly left Hololive in 2023, according to other Hololive talents.
After months without updates, COVER Corp quietly unlisted the Omega teasers from its YouTube channel in April 2023. In addition, the main Hololive English channel no longer had Omega among its followed channels. While the YouTube channel remains alive, it has no videos whatsoever.
As of this writing, COVER Corp has not released an official statement about Omega’s exit. Omega’s exact role for Hololive EN is unknown, but the credits on IRyS’s “Caesura of Despair” music video listed them as a producer. Omega may have been planned as the fictional persona of Hololive English’s producer, much like A-Chan from HololiveJP.
In a July 2024 “Occultic” off-collab with Shiori Novella, Takanashi Kiara revealed the status of Omega in a snarky fashion.
Kiara talks about a mysterious hole in the Hololive English server which led to many talents falling to bedrock. She asks the Ouija board who dug the hole, and “the board” answers Omega. When Kiara asked if Omega was “still with us”, the board said “no.” When asked what Omega’s purpose was, the board answered “zero,” before the “ghost” left for good.
Fans have speculated that Omega was a net negative on Hololive English, with this figure being blamed for 2022’s content drought. No Hololive talent or staff have explicitly confirmed details on Omega’s role with the group or the reasons behind their departure. Either way, fans finally have something that resembles an answer to one of Hololive’s biggest mysteries.
