PlayStation is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and the console is inviting fans to join in on the festivities by customizing their PS5 with old startup animations.
PlayStation turns 30 this year, and to mark the occasion, the company has launched a sale featuring discounts on hardware, peripherals, and games. However, the spotlight is on a last-minute surprise that allows players to relive the classic PlayStation experience. For each PlayStation edition, Sony has crafted a unique theme and sound etched deep into the memories of players. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to customize PS5 startup animation on new models to keep the classic UIs.
However, the brand’s 30th anniversary allows users to customize the console’s main menu with graphics and sounds from the past. Here’s how to do it.
How to customize PS5 startup animation
For a limited time, players can customize their PS5 to get classic startup animations. Here are all the options and how to get them.
- PlayStation
- PlayStation 2
- PlayStation 3
- PlayStation 4
- 30th anniversary
When players start their PS5 after the new update, they should get a new PlayStation 30th Anniversary option on the top menu. If not, follow these steps to get the update and customize a PS5’s startup animation.
- Go to Settings and select System
- Navigate to System Software
- Choose System Features Update to manually initiate the process
- Once done, restart your device
- You will be greeted with a “We have added a few touches to take you on a journey through PlayStation history.” Press Next on this screen to get the settings option
- Go to Settings and select Appearance and Sound
- Select between the five options to customize your UI.
As soon as users select an option, the PS5 UI will change to the classic version, playing the nostalgic sounds of the old theme. It’s worth noting that the initial sequence is always the original PS1 audio, but the rest of the audio can be changed to PS1, PS2, PS3, or PS4.
Fans love the new update, but unfortunately, it’s limited time only and will most likely end on December 20. However, the exact expiration date remains uncertain. Fans are already urging Sony to make this feature permanent, but the company has yet to announce any plans to extend or retain it beyond the limited timeframe.
