Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s release has been long overdue for Bioware fans, and reports suggest its release date may be very soon.
Once ranked among the biggest and most beloved studios in gaming, Bioware suffered significant losses in the last decade. The unpopular Mass Effect Andromeda was followed by the catastrophic misfire of Anthem, an unwanted live-service game that expectedly fizzled on release; an unfortunate harbinger of the gaming industry’s future.
The release since then has been Mass Effect Legendary Edition, a trio of remasters. Any goodwill gains the company may have made from those were offset with ugly business moves.
In August 2023, EA laid off 50 employees from Bioware, with a group of them suing the former for better severance. These layoffs included key figures in ongoing projects including Dreadwolf and Mass Effect 5, which cast even more doubt over the games. Overall, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf may be a do-or-die affair for Bioware, but reports suggest it’ll be out very soon.
Dragon Age: Dreadwolf release date reportedly falls in 2024 or early 2025
EA Games’ projections for its fiscal year discuss an unspecified game that is reportedly Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
Multiple reports claimed EA has set Dragon Age: Dreadwolf for a 2024. GiantBomb’s Jeff Grubb responded to a social media user who posted an image of EA’s title slate for the fiscal year.
The report states that an “owned IP title” will be released during its upcoming fiscal year and a “partner title” will come out in Q4 of its fiscal year. According to Grubb, the owned IP title is Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
Grubb previously reported Bioware was “internally confident” the game would launch in late 2024. In the latest trailer for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, Bioware announced a full reveal in Summer 2024. The studio will likely announce a release date during the event. Given the delays Dreadwolf has experienced, it’s unlikely the title’s release date will go past the current fiscal year.
Is Mass Effect 5 still happening?
Bioware has confirmed Mass Effect 5 will come after Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s release.
Despite the layoffs in 2023, Bioware emphasized that the development of Mass Effect 5 will continue. On N7 day, Bioware released a teaser trailer for Mass Effect 5, to reassure fans that it’s still in the works.
However, the last update from Bioware heavily implied the game was still in pre-production. It’s unlikely Bioware will make any headway with Mass Effect 5 until Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s release. Either way, Bioware’s future rests on the fate of their landmark RPG’s fourth entry.
