Respawn is reportedly working on a new game with Titans in it, but is it Titanfall 3?
Besides working on a third Star Wars Jedi game, Respawn Entertainment was reportedly making an original Star Wars FPS that got canceled. The company also opened a new studio in March 2023 to keep Apex Legends going for “10 to 15” years. This led many to believe that Respawn was preoccupied with Star Wars and keeping Apex Legends alive and had thus forgotten about Titanfall.
The ongoing project of Titanfall director Steve Fukuda hasn’t fueled optimism for the series’ comeback either. He’s now in charge of a small team working on something that’s said to be “completely new.” Respawn founder Vince Zampella said that he would love to see Titanfall 3 happen, but in 2023 he stated that Respawn wasn’t working on it. It seemed like all hope was lost for Titanfall’s rebirth. Or was it?
Is there a Titanfall 3 game?
Titanfall 3 is not currently in the works per Respawn Entertainment founder Vince Zampella, but it’s reported that one of Respawn’s upcoming games will “involve Titans.”
Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb discussed Respawn and Fukuda’s upcoming secret project and said that it has entered a new “prototyping phase.” He gave an update on how the project is going and said that it’s now a “real project” and that it’s a “Titanfall game set in the Titanfall universe.” He noted that the people he talked to said that it’s not a Titanfall 3-esque project.
Fans were still wondering how Titan-y the upcoming Titanfall would be, and Grubb took to Twitter to flatly state that it’s not Titanfall 3 but followed it with a hope-restoring qualifier.
Titanfall fans are still licking their wounds after the cancellation of Titanfall Legends in 2022 and while Apex Legends is still in that same universe, fans of the game seem to be permanently frustrated. They’re hoping that this new project doesn’t meet the same fate.
Laura Miele, President of EA Entertainment and Technology said on EA’s website that Respawn is now moving to focus on the Star Wars Jedi series while providing support for existing games. This confirms that Respawn is not completely absorbed in the Star Wars universe and is able to dedicate time to its own established IPs. Miele also said that the plan is giving fans the “next installments of the iconic franchises they want.” Even if the next game isn’t Titanfall 3, that could mean it’s not completely unplanned.
