Bebop guide in Deadock: All abilities, best build & how to play

Bebop is a formidable cyborg in Deadlock who is capable of dealing high damage with the right build and the best items.

Bebop doesn’t have a traditional gun, which is great for players coming in from traditional MOBAs, where shooting takes a back seat. Instead, this tanky initiator is equipped with a laser gun with a sizable magazine of 66 bullets. Essentially, Bebop is a high-damage ganker, but he’s also an excellent disabler, thanks to his Hook ability. His impressive 650 health also makes him a viable tank option, allowing him to withstand close encounters and emerge unscathed.

While Deadlock labels Bebop as a beginner-friendly hero, don’t underestimate him; he’s a force to be reckoned with, rivaling other top-tier gankers in the game.

All of Bebop’s abilities in Deadlock

Bebop’s abilities are those of a ganker and a disruptor, capable of breaking up enemy formations and canceling any plans they might’ve had.

Bebop is not the most mobile hero in Deadlock, and players used to the likes of Ivy will find him downright frustrating. He makes up for it with his second-highest health bar in the game.

But that doesn’t mean he needs to jump into chaotic battles because when on cooldown, Bebop is highly vulnerable to damage. For this reason, players are recommended to almost always keep their Hook on a low cooldown to single out enemies during the team fighting phase.

Exploding Uppercut

Bebop1 1

Bebop’s uppercut is less rewarding on its own, but it’s great as part of Deadlock’s deadliest combo. It’s a simple close-range punch that sends enemies flying back, causing damage to the area where they land. But here’s the cool part: uppercut does not damage allies but can knock them back. That opens up a lot of possibilities. For example, Bebop can toss a Sticky Bomb to a trooper and knock it towards enemies for quick explosion.

With other tools and the right build, this allows Bebop to seamlessly transition from long-range to short-range combat. However, this tactic reaches its full potential when paired with his Hook ability, whose cooldown is reset to zero whenever his fully charged uppercut successfully hits an enemy.

  • Level 1: -11 second cooldown
  • Level 2: On Uppercutting enemy hero, gain fast spin-up time on primary fire, 2x range, and +60% weapon damage for 12 seconds
  • Level 3: On Uppercutting the enemy hero, set hook cooldown to 0 and instantly +100% bullets to the current clip.

Sticky Bomb

Bebop2ability 1

As evident from the name, it’s a bomb that sticks to nearby targets and explodes after 3 seconds within six meters of Bebop, dealing damage in a 12-meter radius. Since it has a spacious radius, keeping it handy in late-game when enemies are often stacked up is recommended. That’s because Sticky Bomb’s damage permanently increases by 2.5% for each enemy hit.

Although Sticky Bomb can attach to enemies, it’s more strategic to deploy it on allies who regularly engage in close combat, such as troopers or heroes like Abrams or Pocket. Since the bomb’s effects can be easily evaded, deliberately entering the enemy’s zone to apply it is not recommended.

Those who want to deploy the Sticky Bomb themselves should consider doing it from a safe distance, such as while traversing a zipline. This is because a maxed-out Sticky Bomb can disarm opponents, making it easier for Bebop to pick up solo fights.

  • Level 1: -8 second cooldown
  • Level 2: +80 damage
  • Level 3: On Attach, disarms the target for 3.5 seconds

Hook

Bebop3ability 1

Hook is the star of Bebop’s toolkit, helping him stand out as one of the best disablers in Deadlock. With his Hook, Bebop can disrupt whatever the enemy is doing, pulling them close and dealing 40 damage. For the next 10 seconds, his bullets deal increased damage. But it works best when combined with his uppercut. After pulling in enemies, players should instantly activate their uppercut to maximize damage potential and then capitalize on bullet buff once enemies are at a safe distance from Bebop’s body.

To squeeze full juice out of Hook, try to stay at high points to single out enemies, take them down individually, and rescue teammates when they find themselves in an odd spot. At base level, Hook can reach targets up to 35 meters away.

  • Level 1: Bebop deals 30% more bullet damage against hooked enemies for 10 seconds
  • Level 2: +30 meter cast range
  • Level 3: -12 second cooldown

Hyper Beam

Bebop4ability 1

Hyper Beam is one of the most powerful ultimates in the game. Even after the cooldown, radius, and several other nerfs, it remains game-changing. This is because aerial control is an asset in Deadlock and Hyper Beam grants heaps of that, allowing Bebop to melt opposing Ivy’s or Vindicta’s even if they get ahead on builds.

Upon activating Hyper Beam, Bebop equips an enhanced laser gun, delivering 205 base damage while also slowing enemies and granting him airtime. However, its true potential is unleashed when maxed out.

  • Level 1: -40 second cooldown
  • Level 2: +100 DPS
  • Level 3: Hyper Bear heals Bebop for 100% of its damage on heroes, 33% for non-heroes

At Level 3, Bebop unlocks his healing capability and receives a significant damage boost, increasing his damage output to 305. However, activating this ability on the ground can leave him vulnerable due to his slow movement speed. Fortunately, activating it while airborne allows Bebop to maintain mid-air positioning, mitigating this risk.

To achieve this, activate Hyper Beam while jumping down from a zipline and after pressing the double jump key. Players may also benefit from Majestic Leap to get to high points when a zipline isn’t accessible late in the game. Even if enemies deal damage, Bebop will continue to gain healing from his onslaught, allowing him to absorb bullets. It’s still recommended to keep a healer around or buy healing upgrades.

How to level Bebop’s abilities in Deadlock

The best way to level Bebop’s abilities is is maxing out Hook early on and using this to gank enemies early.

Bebop is a versatile hero who can be built in many ways, but he shines as an early lane ganker. To disarm and single out enemies during the laning phase, players would need their Hook maxed out quickly. Once enemies are within his reach, he’d need his uppercut at the ready. This one-two combination is copied and pasted directly from Dota 2’s Pudge, allowing him to punish enemies early in the round and enabling carries and tanks to push their lane

Sticky Bomb and Hyper Beam are more useful in mid-game, so there is no need to rush these abilities.

Hyper Beam has a lengthy cooldown, a problem that can be resolved late in the game. So, maxing it out mid-game isn’t recommended. It helps that Bebop’s other abilities contribute more mid-game than the ultimate.

The best Bebop item build in Deadlock

Early Game: Monster Rounds, Basic Magazine, Bullet Lifesteal, Sprint Boots, Extra Health, Spirit Strike, Mystic Reach

Mid Game: Burst Fire, Enduring Speed, Healing Booster, Improved Cooldown, Combat Barrier, Melee Charge

Late Game: Intensifying Magazine, Hunter’s Aura, Leech, Majestic Leap, Superior Cooldown, Improved Reach, Diviner’s Kevlar

Bebop is innately an excellent laner, but he lacks tankiness without a proper build. To patch up his weak areas, players will need to stack up Souls, which is possible by amping up his magazine. Monster Rounds can help gather souls quickly by granting a fire rate boost against NPCs. Basic Magazine amplifies overall weapon damage, which, when paired with Sprint Boots, improves the majority of Bebop’s problem areas.

Bebop boasts the second-highest health in the game, but he’s not the only one with 650 HP. With Extra Health and Bullet Lifesteal, his health bar skyrockets to 1048, making him a powerhouse for early-game farming. Spirit upgrades turn him into a formidable threat at both close and long range, enabling him to easily pull off his Hook and Uppercut combo across ally lanes.

Weapon upgrades will further bolster his overall health while allowing him to deal damage more efficiently. Melee Charge is especially recommended to double down on uppercut damage. As the game progresses, Bebop’s sluggishness becomes noticeable. Enduring Speed helps mitigate this by providing both a health and sprint boost. Healing Booster and Combat Barrier keep Bebop safe in chaotic situations, ensuring he receives full healing from allies.

By mid-game, Bebop will have his Hook maxed out, reducing its cooldown to 11 seconds. However, players will find themselves using Hook frequently in combination with other abilities. To fully transform him into a ganker, Hook is essential, making Improved Cooldown a must-have upgrade to prioritize. With the Hook maxed and the upgrade in place, the cooldown drops to under 9 seconds.

Bebop is a space maker early and mid-game, but he can be an excellent disabler during the team fighting phase. Intensifying Magazine can come in handy when paired with the 30% fire rate right after using Hook, disrupting enemies from their ongoing fights and removing them from the tower. Hunter’s Aura is only useful when combined with Improved Reach and bound to the Hook. This combination allows players to pull enemies out of ongoing fights from a larger radius. The reduced fire rate from Hunter’s Aura —tripled when targeting isolated enemies—amplifies the effectiveness, making it a potent tool for focusing down singled-out foes.

Leech is a pricey upgrade, but it’s recommended for all late-game heroes to gain an overall boost to their toolkit. Meanwhile, Majestic Leap, Superior Cooldown, and Diviner’s Kevlar are all focused on enhancing ultimate abilities.

As explained above, Hyper Beam works best when used from a vantage point or mid-air. Majestic Leap helps Bebop reach rooftops, making him a tricky target. However, he’s still vulnerable, a problem that Diviner’s Kevlar can mitigate. When Hyper Beam is activated, the Spirit upgrade grants 700 Spirit and a Bullet Shield. Lastly, make sure Superior Cooldown is always applied to Hyper Beam, as it has a lengthy cooldown even when maxed out.

Luxury items are completely optional, but for stacked players, Long Range, Pristine Emblem, Curse, and Superior Stamina are recommended at different stages of the game.
