Packs are usually where players get new cards from in MTG Arena similar to the actual paper game.
Since MTG Arena doesn’t have a system that allows players to dismantle cards they do not want, players new and old rely on opening packs for new cards. Because of this, players usually save up gold before a new set releases. More gold means more packs and more packs means more cards. With all of that being said, things can get pretty confusing on which packs are good.
However, there are still ways to determine which ones are worth every gold spent on them.
Best packs to open in MTG Arena
The best packs to open in MTG Arena are Foundations along with whichever one the player needs.
There’s no definitive best pack to open in MTG Arena. A lot of players play the game with a single format in mind. For Standard format players, it’s best to open the recently released set especially if they’ve already completed the cards from the previous sets. Alchemy players are most likely going for alchemy packs which contain cards that are best suited for their preferred way of playing the game.
Foundations, on the other hand, is a different type of set. It’s the first set in Magic: The Gathering that will be standard legal for five whole years. This means that opening Foundation packs will allow players to use the cards they get from it in Standard for a very long time compared to other sets. This makes the set a very worthy investment of gold.
For players who are still building their deck, it’s best to open packs that contain the cards they need. For example, if they need a card that can only be specifically found in Bloomburrow, it’s best to buy Bloomburrow packs in hopes of getting the card and saving wildcards to craft other cards instead.
This also applies to Alchemy players. Instead of opening standard sets, there are alchemy packs that contain cards that are tailored more for players of the Alchemy format. These packs are great for players focusing on Alchemy.
