Treyarch has disabled legacy XP tokens from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) and Warzone in Black Ops 6 and players are outraged.
For all of the praise Black Ops 6 received for its campaign and Zombies mode, the multiplayer offering remains controversial. Once more, the grind for new weapons, cosmetics, and other in-game items remains contentious for fans. Fans initially praised Black Ops 6 for allowing players to carry forward XP tokens from the previous games. The very next day, players discovered the tokens were no longer there.
In its place was a significantly less generous gift of 45 minutes of Double XP. When players took to social media to see if this was a glitch, Treyarch confirmed that the change was intentional.
Can I use legacy Double XP tokens in Black Ops 6?
Players can still activate Double XP through Warzone before entering Black Ops 6 multiplayer.
Redditors discovered an exploit that allowed them to still use legacy Double XP tokens for Black Ops 6 multiplayer. They activated the XP Tokens through the Warzone tab, then once activated, returned to Black Ops 6 lobbies.
Since Treyarch specifically cited the legacy XP tokens as an “issue,” it’s very likely the Warzone exploit will be patched out soon. Many fans reacted negatively to the news on social media, especially after realizing Treyarch always had the means to allow legacy XP tokens.
Fans think Treyarch should prioritize more important issues in Black Ops 6
Further angering the critics are the continued issues with Black Ops 6. These include inconsistent audio levels, slower movement, broken perks, janky weapon damage values, and other technical issues that fans believe should have been fixed first. While the “fix” for legacy tokens may have been relatively simple, it did give some fans the impression that Treyarch had the wrong priorities.
Ultimately, Black Ops 6 is still a popular game, and just as many players don’t mind the game in its current state. Even so, the vocal section of the fandom has made their voices heard through Steam reviews. Black Ops 6 still sits at Mixed reviews, with an average score of 6/10 from users.
Fans hope Treyarch takes these criticisms to heart and fixes them sooner rather than later.
