With the success Deadlock is experiencing right now, players are wondering if the Deadlock is coming out on the Nintendo Switch or its successor, but is this even possible?
Despite not even being officially announced, new MOBA Deadlock has been averaging massive player counts on Steam. Needless to say, the game is currently experiencing success even if it’s still in early access. Streamers like Michael “shroud” Grzesiek also believe that the game will be addicting, heaping even more praise on the game.
Due to the game already receiving such high praise and being such a compelling mystery, it’s easy to wonder about a console release; so how about the Nintendo Switch?
Is Deadlock coming out on Nintendo Switch or Switch 2?
There is no word regarding Deadlock receiving a release on Nintendo consoles.
In its current form, Deadlock seems to be staying on the PC. Valve has also been quiet about the game, barely acknowledging its existence in the past month. As such, there’s no news as to whether Valve is interested in porting the game over to the Nintendo Switch. However, there is some cause for hope.
Valve has ported two games to the Nintendo Switch before; being Portal and Portal 2. While Portal is a puzzle game developed more than a decade ago, Deadlock is significantly more modern and could be too intensive for Nintendo’s handheld console. While other games developed in Valve’s Source game engine have been ported to various game consoles, that hasn’t been the case with its newer Source 2 engine. The only game developed in the engine to launch on other platforms was Dota Underlords, which was released on mobile devices.
Deadlock has a large map with 4 lanes and a total of 12 players roaming around constantly. Not just that, there are also guardians, walkers, and patrons. This would likely make the game tough to port for the limited hardware of the Switch.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is another matter. The next-gen Nintendo console would likely be able to handle Deadlock, and multiple titles are confirmed to be coming out on the platform.
While there are reports that the Nintendo Switch 2 has much more powerful hardware than the first Switch, it’s still going to be up to Valve if its going to port the game over to the device. As of now, there is no news regarding Valve’s plans to release Deadlock on Nintendo consoles, or anywhere else.
