A new Nintendo Switch 2 game has been officially announced, expanding the short list of known titles.
Speculation about when the Nintendo Switch 2 will come out has been circulating for months. Production reportedly began back in September 2024 for a potential 2025 Q2 release. After the cozy farming sim My Time at Evershine became the first game officially confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2, many fans have been eagerly awaiting additional titles or a even console reveal.
While the Switch 2 release date still remains a mystery, the next game for the system became known to the public. What’s more, it’s the spiritual successor to a classic Nintendo 64 title.
Yooka-Replaylee confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2
The second game officially announced for Nintendo Switch 2 is Yooka-Replaylee.
In the console announcement trailer released on October 24, developers have listed one of the consoles as just “Nintendo.” All other available systems were specified, such as the Xbox Series X/S and the PlayStation 5. Additionally, the trailer included a pair of bouncing eyes over “Nintendo,” potentially suggesting that fans should keep an eye out for more specifics.
To add fuel to the fire, a developer in the official discord reportedly alluded to the next-gen Nintendo console.
“We’ve confirmed PC, PS5, Xbox Series consoles and…Nintendo! More on that as soon as we can,” they said.
While the studio hasn’t revealed any other details on the hardware, this still speaks to the hardware’s looming release. It seems that the developers have done all they could to state that Yooka-Replaylee would be the latest Nintendo Switch 2 game without violating any possible agreements with Nintendo.
What is Yooka-Replaylee?
Yooka-Replaylee is a remastered version of the 2017 3D platforming game Yooka-Layee.
Yooka-Laylee was an indie game released in 2017 that follows the titular Yooka and Laylee as they collect pages to save the world’s books and defeat an evil corporation. Originally funded through Kickstarter, the game is developed by Playtonic Games. The studio was originally founded by alumni of Rare, including some of the leads on Banjo-Kazooie.
The remaster gives developers more opportunities to build the “3D-Platforming love letter” to a greater extend than they could originally.
Yooka-Replaylee promises enhanced performance and animations while still remaining faithful to the charm of the original game. Other notable new features include an orchestral soundtrack, more customization options, and even a map. Fans of Yooka-Laylee have a lot to look forward to.
Now that another game has been confirmed for the Switch 2, fans just have to keep waiting for the actual console to be announced. Hopefully, Yooka-Replaylee’s trailer suggests that it may be any day now.
